What are spore ships?

I've seen mention of them. Don't know what they do?
Or, how to get them. Are they race or tech or super-ability related?

It's part of the Korath's Super Ability. It allows them to research a tech for a module to place on a ship.

If you send a ship with this module to an undefended planet, it becomes a toxic planet in your control with VERY little of a population. No ground combat needed.

And if you do a custom race with super-annilator you will be able to research the tech necessary to build spore ships as well. The ship is btw destroyed when used to de-populate an enemy's planet. Also, btw, adding a troop module to this ship is fruitless...you can add the module, and it will take the pop from the host planet but it will not add pop to the receiving planet.

Anyone tried adding a colony module to a spore ship?

Does the spore ships get used up like troop ships going to take over planets?
Or can you use them over again?

I actually think troop ships should not be used up. But should be allowed to go to a friendly planet to reload. But not a big deal.

From what chucksled said about troop module being added onto the ship, I'd only have to guess that a colony module would have the same effect.

brycej, chucksled answered that in his post. Just like colony ship or a troop ship, the spore ship will be consumed upon use.

I think one reason (beyond balance) that a troop ship wouldn't be able to be reused is the massive amount of damage it would sustain while entering orbit under fire of planetary defenses and perhaps even being used as a staging center on the ground or even a fortified position. By the end of a fight I'd image that thing would look like burnt swiss cheese.

Constructors get destroyed upon construction of a starbase module because they use nanotechnology to convert the mass from the Constructor ship to the mass of the starbase module and their crew mans the module.

Colony Ships inevitably get destroyed because of atmospheric entrance, and in order to set up the Initial Colony building.

Freighters probably don't get destroyed at all: they get dismantled and converted into those tiny trade ships.

There may be several reasons why Transports get destroyed:

1. Atmospheric entrance under fire.

2. They get destroyed on the ground.

3. Their mass, like in Constructors, get converted by a nanotech device, into the mass that forms those hideous lunch box tanks.

4. They are dismantled once the ground war is over.

A Spore Ship may get destroyed because of:

1. Atmospheric entrance under fire.

2. Self-intoxication from releasing spores.

3. Kamikaze(crashing into planet to release spores into soil/oceans).
