Unit Movement

Is there anyway to 'group' units without making them into a fleet? I find that when I have insufficient logistics to put all my ships into a fleet, moving them becomes a nightmare. Every turn I have to manually select each one before moving them.

Also, If I have them all selected and try to sentry them, it only does it for the unit I clicked on last. So I am forced to sentry each fleet/ship individually.

These have got to be some of the dumbest game design flaws I have ever come across. It essentially quadruples my turn lengths. Hopefully I'm the dumb one and there is a way to do it after all. Any help/suggestions?

You should be able to bandbox the ships and issue one order, then they'll all move there in turn. You can also use a rally point.

yes but I still have to recreate the 'group' every turn. I can't just click on them and have them all select, as if they were numbered in most other games. When you have 10 ships/fleets in one spot, its so frustrating. And again, even when they are all selected you can't sentry them together. That has to be done individually, and it is a must. If I dont do it, then I will get prompted to move the 10 ships individually all over again the next turn!

Check out the tutorial on waypoints when you load the game. You can have starports make ships and automatically send them to a waypoint (say to attack a nearby civilization).

Once you place ships on sentry, they should remain that way until they see another civilization's ship in their area of influence, so you wouldn't have to hit sentry on each turn unless you put your guards in a heavily travelled area of space.
I'm not sure what you're doing here, sounds like you're using ships that only have 1 movement per turn and sending a bunch of cheap ships to attack your enemy's territory while controlling them all manually? Just trying to understand your situation since I don't see how moving ships around could become as much as a burden as you seem to be having.

yeah, I'm talking early military rush before I have much in the way of logistics researched. =/. I have a civilization stack of death mentality.
As for the sentry thing, what I mean is, everytime I move my units one time, and then want to not be bothered with them for a few turns, I gotta sentry them all individually. Very annoying when you have 10 fleets in one spot.
