Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor

Second expansion pack coming soon...

Stardock is pleased to announce the second expansion pack to its award-winning PC strategy game Galactic Civilizations II.  The new expansion pack, entitled Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor, takes place shortly after the events of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar and puts the player in control of one of 12 unique civilizations ranging from the humans to the evil Drengin to the mysterious Thalan.

Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor aims to greatly expand the wealth of content available to Galactic Civilizations II players.  New features include the solar system destroying Terror Stars, unique technology trees per civilization, unique weapons per civilization, unique planetary improvements for different civilizations, a map editor with a 3D engine, a custom scenario editor that allows users to create extremely custom games that can be shared with each other, Metaverse tournaments, new graphics, special new ships with corresponding ship components and much more!

The expansion pack has a target release date of November 2007 and will list for $29.95.  Users can pre-order it directly from GalCiv2.com at a discounted price.  It requires Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition or Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar to be installed in order to use.

I can't help feel that buying this game (which has DA virtually incorporated into it) would be like for me to buy DA twice. I understand financially it would not make sense to give it to the people who already purchased DA but I don't think I will be buying this unless I get a discount for buying DA.

I don't usually rant but thanks for listening.

Opps, didn't read properly that it ether needs dreadlords or the gold edition. I wish to apologies for this comment.

Do note that paypal doesn't work for preorders. If you want to get some other games on TGN (or don't mind spending more now and saving the extra tokens for later) though, you can buy tokens with paypal then preorder with tokens.

Thank you for that information, I didn't knew it. So I'll have look at the way you described me, thank you again.

for my own last-ditch attempt at an idea for GC 2.0 or GC:TA-

what about creating cruise ship modules and implementing tourism in a system similar to trade?

and how about trade outposts on planets with trade routes, to help make it easier to exploit trade as a more easily viable economic resource?

-Space Fortresses: If I was in charge of a galactic empire, I wouldn't be using fragile starbases to defend my valuable assests. Any place that was worth defending, I would make a space structure capable of surviving a major seige or two. Last time I checked, a huge hulled ship can be built to be superior to a starbase in every way (including mobility). It doesn't make much sense that you can't build a better space structure, that has more room for defensive parts since it doesn't have an engine, than a ship that has to move around. There is no reason why the space structure can't atleast be made equal to the ship, if not better.

heck, why not just design the starbases in the ship builder, and require a 'structor to upgrade them (only weapons and defenses - other modules would still require their own 'structor to be consumed)?

This is an old request, but can you guys implement some sort of audio player that allows us listen to our own music in galciv2? The music is boring, to be frank. Does anyone here really like the music in this game? Be honest....

Jeez.. and whats the problem with running foobar2000 or winamp in background ?

couldn't tell you for sure, but i'd say probably not. the first thing i do when i get a new game is turn the music off. if i played different genres i could see how it might be worth it, but game music reached its peak in the days of the 8-bit NES.

Jeez.. and whats the problem with running foobar2000 or winamp in background ?

on exceedingly large maps i lose the ability to alt+tab, so if i get tired of my play list i have to save, quit, change my music, and reload my game.

but i actually prefer it that way. my music library's way too big for a little add-in to be very helpful, winamp is where all my preferred settings are stored, etc.

So no new civilizations? (Too much to ask, I suppose. There's a whole lot more new content that's even better!)

Is there going to be any addition to the production/economy system?

I think the music is ok. Particualry the Dark Avatar starting menu music. It is kind of relaxing in a way. Nothing to write home about.

Now the music in Sins of a Solar Empire is AWESOME!!! I absolutley love the opening menu music. I kid you not, I will start up the game just to listen to the main menu music.

I'd rather the limit be removed on how many opponents you can face, plus a system of injecting random major races in to the field, plus getting rid of planetary garrison limit and adding multiple ship production on a single planet.

plus getting rid of planetary garrison limit

lol. I never even knew there was a limit. What is the limit?
I think 10. If you hit 10 ships on a planet it will say, "Starport is Full."
Plus, orbital shipyards.

I pre-ordered it. Cant wait til' its out!

there's a very interesting concept sketch among the images in the gamespot interview - like, "potential new race" interesting.

^No, that's what I suppose a Dread Lord would look like when not in human form(they can make themselves look human as in The Reluctant).

I have a high end computer with ...., four MB of RAM, and four megabytes alocated to virtual memory.

Let me guess - with Windows 3.1 installed OS?

Why wouldn't you just start up your MP3 player in the background and turn the in game music off? I've got no problem with the in game music but when I feel like listeningto something else I just do that. The game plays windowed very well, after all.

and winamp comes with functions that allow you to access basic controls (skip, play/pause) from other programs without switching out.

then they don't look much as they do in the cut scenes of DL.

Yeah! I have been waiting for the Terror Star's return and larger galaxys for a while now. Uniqe weapons, techs, improvements, ect. for each race are very welcomed by me. No longer is each race to similar to one another. Does the title indecate that the Arnor will be in this one? I can't wait for it to come out.

I can't put it any better. Stardock gets my hard won gaming dollar because they put the blood, sweat, tears, love and care into their products that more gaming companies should.

What? You actually to see what a Dread Lord looks like. AFAIK, they're only supposed to appear in the form of their flame logo.

Hi,

that are great news. I would like to ask you of the following:

Can you make the expansion (and possibly, also DA) available in Europe Retail stores, especially Germany? Or the ability to pay for the game via bank transfer (in Germany, it is called "Geldüberweisung"). I don't use paypal, and don't have a credit card (its relatively rare in Germany to use it).

Also, a few ideas from me might make the game even better than it is, and often will not require much programming.

- Customizable Minor races. It works with the main races, should be able with them to. The ability to select which minor races partake in the game.

- Renamable stars. One should be able to rename one's systems once one has captured them from the Drengin .

- Rework espionage. I think that the moment one is trading with other races, one gets into severe contact with them, so the gates for spies are open. Trading should give espionage information, what a civ likes etc.. Perhaps spies should be placed in "observation mode" where they do not attract much attention to the AI.

- MORE ship extras. There never can be enough of it. I espcially would like to see some rather plain geometrical forms which had been forgotten, like a sphere, a pyramid, all kinds of triangles etc. MORE IS BETTER. Also, I think most people are using KHSM anyways, so perhaps it could be put into the game...?.

- A shipcreator that launches without the actual game, so one can design one's ships BEFORE one starts with a race. First make my Feddie ships in all sizes, save them, and then select "Starfleet shipstyle" when starting a new game. The ability to save ONLY TEMPLATES

- Did I mention MORE SHIP PARTS already?

- Individual Research trees sound great. Working through one and the same tech tree was really something boring which created a standard clicking scheme after a while.

- Also MORE LOGOS and pictures for alien races to select from. Don't bother with what the race fitting to the pic will be like, the imagination of the player will do that part.

- Ah, and MORE SHIP PARTS, a thousand or so would be nice .

Anyways, looking forward to the release
