Lord Vega sat quietly behind the massive oval table and waited patiently for the other leaders to join him.
The table was huge, enough room to seat at least 20 other delegates of any size or stature, with the United Planets emblem in the middle and the other races flags etched into the surface around the edge at regular intervals.
Evil and good alignment races were kept a distance apart by a healthy mixture of neutral and minor races.
There may have been peace but there was no need to rub anyones nose in it!
The room itself was a grand affair albeit a mismatch of the best art and craft work from every culture of every race. Beautiful paintings sat on huge wooden easels , hand carved wooden furniture placed on exotic rugs stood along one wall while massive marble statues stood sombrely in the corners and massive photos hung on the walls showing off major achievements from all races.
The whole space screamed of history, the screams from the countless billions who had died in the countless battles that the races and cultures had thrust upon each other.
It was deathly silent.
And still Lord Vega waited.
United Planet meetings were tedius to say the very least and were always an excuse for certain leaders to throw their weight but mostly influence around.
For five whole years Lord Vega had been able to maintain and secure harmony throughout the galaxy, the appointed negotiator between the good and evil alignments. As always this meeting would be another test.
His appointment was not by choice, although his race were the driving force behind military accomplishments that even the Drengin could not compete with,he had already received some resisitance from his home world when he had decided that the conquests were over and it was time for peace.
Indeed he thought that would be the end of it, a succesful military career along with stable home planets throughout the stars.
Time for the old warrior to retire in glory to Arcea!
Not a bit of it, a rushed United Planets conference had him elected 'Maintainer Of The Peace'.
He couldn't possibly turn it down, that would have been an admission that he couldn't do the job, that was five years ago.
The door clanged open and the Terran Leader stepped through.
