Just picked up the game...anything better than the manual?

Still lost on how to get into playing this game. Any good online sources for getting started / better manual?

Play the tutorials, and play a couple of games with a small map. Just to get familiarized with it. This tutorial is quite good. There is also the Gal Civ 2 wiki.

You could find some guides and AAR's that may be helpful, but actually playing the game has to be the best way to learn.

also look through posts in this forum - eg useful stuff on economy, starbases, etc.

The main thing is that this game is addictive - once you've got a glimmer of what to do you are hooked - so don't be afraid to try stuff out just to see what happens. So what if you do lose a few games? No problem, you'll be better next time...

What had me beat as a beginner was the economy! even on the lowest dificulty levels i would just flounder for hours with a rediculous economy.

"what the freakin xxxx is wrong with this economy??"
