Looking at DesktopX

Am I making this too difficult?

Well, here's the story.  I have been using WindowBlinds, CursorXP, and Icon Packager for years (purchased all three) and, because of the announcement regarding the WB6 beta, thought I would give DesktopX a try.  My display is a flatpanel widescreen that is optimized at 1440x900 which has never been a problem up til now.

Needless to say, most of the DesktopX themes list as 1280x1024 or 1024x768 and this has turned out to be a huge issue.  I have read a few of the posts which usually go something like "just add +160" (to what?) or "just go into Builder app and change the *insert meaningless gibberish for a non-desktopx creator* here.

I guess I'm wondering why such a seemingly nice app doesn't auto-scale to the display since everything else I have used from Stardock has been light years ahead of what Microsoft puts into its OS.  Is there a simple way to get a nice DesktopX theme for 1440x900 or to modify an existing one?  I am not artistic, have no desire to learn how to create a DX theme, and have no experience at all with DX up until today.

Looking forward to some feedback and suggestions.  Thanks to all in advance!

i'm guessing it doesn't auto scale since it's more or less designed for you to create your own interface.

if the creator sets it up to be resolution independent, then you will get auto scale.

There are a few resolution independent DesktopX themes. Try gef's library, I'm pretty sure he made a couple and there are a few others as well.

It really is up to the author of the DXtheme. As already noted, an author will make a theme for a specific resolution and that includes the placing and the sizing the objects in the theme. DX would have to know which objects to move or stretch.

You can find resolution independant themes.

Skarnivorous had an object (can't find it now) that would take a snapshot of your theme and save all positions etc of the objects. It would be a great tool to include where the author would save different resolution settings and the user can select whatever screen size they have.

Of course detailed instructions on how to modify the theme should be included in all themes, but again it's all up to the author.
