GameFly: a gamers best friend...

... or, How to not go broke buying games

Just wanted to take a few seconds and say that so far I'm having a fairly pleasant experience with Gamefly.com as I give them a good try at satisfying my gaming needs.  Of course previously I've been in the introductory period, and typically rental companies like Gamefly work hard at shipping n00by customers their requests so that the customers will feel that they are getting their money's worth and want to stick around for a long time.

Regardless of that though, Gamefly is worth a good mention as they, like Gamerang.com and Gameznflix.com (despite their problems in the customer service/inventory management areas), are a gamer's best friend, and perhaps only real saviors as the big game buying seasons approach.

At $59 per for the higher end gaming titles (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games), even the most wealthy (which I am not) of gamers could quickly go broke buying all of the games they want to play on these systems.  In my case, as I suspect would be true for many others, I don't want to necessarily own all of these games, but I do want the opportunity to play quite a few games so that I can determine which games are worth permanently adding to my collection.

In past rental experiences I found I could save considerable amounts of money by not buying games that I later determined were utterly frustrating, or just plain not worth the purchase price for.  Nothing sucks worse than spending hard-earned cash buying a game that keeps you entertained for just a few minutes, or perhaps a few hours tops, or rather than entertaining you just frustrates you because it's not friendly to n00bs or to any other players.

Anyway, if you'd like to give Gamefly.com a try you can use the link here and get a cheap introduction to their service.  I think once you try it out, you'd probably find it is worth remaining a member for at least a few months while you try all of the games that have been on your wish list.  If you normally buy one game a month, or even one game every few months, consider that the money you spend for three months of rentals is just a tiny bit more than the cost of that one game.  Over that three months you can fairly easily find a half-dozen, if not more, games to try out and play, so you can earn a 300% return on your investment if you give rentals a try for a few months :-)

We had GF and it saved us tons of $$. It was good for checking things out to see if they were worth buying and great for games that were quick to beat.

I did finally cancel it since Adrian has been in Iraq for so long and there's really no point in paying for something we're not using.

It's kind of a bummer, though, since when he gets home we'll have to work our way back up from 1 rental at a time to 3. Although maybe if we call customer service and explain our situation they'll have mercy on us.

I would sure hope that they accomodate you, especially given the reason you've had to go without the account so long
