Crashes and reboots laptop - please help!

Hi,

I just recently installed the game on my friend's laptop (i'm staying at his house and my computer's currently broken), and every time I try and start the game, it goes through the intro video, then crashes and restarts the computer.

I have the latest patch for GC2, and the latest ATI (omgega) drivers for the graphics card.

bug report is as follows:

"no files matching ships"? thats probably not helping...

any help getting the game to work would be greatly appreciated, as i'm currently fielding for some galactic civ pretty badly.

Thanks

You seem to have cut off the top of the debug.err--please post the whole thing.

Kyle--the latest versions of the game are available on Stardock Central.

I think you should increase your virtual memory. It looks a bit low.

'Physical Memory: 510MB RAM'
RAM is low, for sure.
'Display Memory: 64.0 MB'
As is video memory.

I think your friend's laptop is not quite up to this game.

There could also be overheating problems, especially with the 'rebooting' problem.
Faults in the game coding will usually result in a CTD, while faults in hardware will usually result in a system crash.

I have worked on laptops that crashed while on AC power, but not on battery power.
When on battery the MB will throttle down the CPU speed, thereby reducing the heat generated.
That lower temp would allow the laptop to operate normally.

So, try the game on battery power and see if it makes any difference.
