Bug ?

Hello !

Im posting here because i ve a strange problem.
The combat result seems strange to me
Here is my ship: Atk 50Beam Def: 30Beam
Ennemy ship: Atk 80 Beam Def: 30mis and 50mass

Ok my ships are the weakest (and i m very late in the techno tree) but are well prepared against this kind of ennemies no ?

When fighting i take 20-40dmg by hit and do only 0-2Dmg ... Of course i'm always losing the fight

Does the situation seems normal to you ? (do the missile and mass defense protect them a bit ?)

I hope my poor english will be clear enough for you to understand this message ^^ and thanx for any answers

No, this is not a bug.

While the attack/defense numbers are important, it is also equally important to check your ATTACK and DEFENSE abilities (your percentages in the "stats" section) against your enemies ATTACK and DEFENSE abilities (I think you have to have the minimum espionage level to see these with the other civ tab).

If they have a few military starbases (for example) and have a defense ability of 100% and your attack is only...say 25% then the numbers become:
Your attack: 62.5 beam
Their Defense: 60 missle and 100 mass

While their attack on you is (assuming the same numbers above):
Their attack: 160 Beam
Your Defense: 37.5 beam

I don't know exactly what numbers you have in your game, but I would suspect something like this is happening in your case.

My advice would be to hunt down some starbases

Which version of the game are you playing? The combat system from DL to DA was changed but a bug was introduced which made non-optimal defenses work better than the optimal defense. This was resolved in DA 1.6, so make sure you have the latest build.

Luck also plays a major role in combat. Say you have a ship with 200 attack and 0% luck. Then your attack varies from 0 to 200 for an average of 100. But if you have luck 25% then it varies from 50 to 200 for an average of 125!

Going by memory (don't have the game on this CPU): I believe the slider for DA 1.6 espionage is found in two places:
(1) at the bottom of the screen in the economics tab that displays your research, military and social sliders
(2) within the economics tab there is also a "espionage" setting which is the far right tab. That one will show you how many turns until your next spy is ready.

I *believe* to gain "minimal infiltration/spying" you need to have 4 spies in total. 3 spies just hanging out not placed anywhere and 1 spy on one of the enemies planets. It takes a few turns to get the message, but there will be a popup telling you that you have achieved basic spying against that civ. Of course if they neutralize you spy before you get the message, you'll have to try again.

I'll take a look at your save when I get back to my CPU, but with Attack and Def stats that low it is no wonder you are getting creamed!!

OK thanx a lot for your tips on spying.

i ll wait your test on my savegame if you have the time ^^ (still very disapointed to do almost no damage on the fight =p )

Hi!
i m playing the v1.6

I've checked your savegame and by the 12B size of homeworlds I suspect you're playing the game version with the off-type defense bug still present. Update game to v1.61 and you'll destroy some of torians' ships.

Another advice: what you need in your game is money, not production, so stop researchin the Industrial sectors. You already have industrial capacity twice too big for your econ. Convert some of your factories on non-manufacturing planets and most ISs to Stock Markets, and build on planets over PQ-10 one basic farm. But I'm affraid that will help you only short-term. The suicidal difficulty is a bit too hard for your current game knowledge.

I believe only spies you have placed on enemy planets will affect your knowledge level of enemies; unassigned spies are idle and have no effect.
