Is there a way to upgrade a class of ships across your entire empire, or do you have to do so individually?

Choose Upgrade. Check the box that says "Upgrade all ships of this type," right under the picture of the ship. Gasp at the hit to your treasury.

One thing I've noticed with the upgrade function is you can be charged multiple times for the same upgrade if you aren't careful. If you click to upgrade a class of ship and within the same turn click to "Upgrade all ships of this type" or even click upgrade again it docks your treasury each time when done within a single turn.

Seems kinda like a bug to me. You shouldn't be charged twice for the same upgrade.

there is this little check box under the picture click that. It costs a lot of BC so watch out
