how do I patch this game?

Ok I don't get it? Why is this game so hard to patch? Could anyone give me a hand? Ta.

I have submited my serial number and downloaded stardock. I got the activation e-mail and obviously things have worked thus far as I'm posting here. BUT I can't figure out how to actually download a bleeding patch. the Stardock system is overly complicated and annoying. i just want to download a patch. I can't see a how i do so. The update the game option just gets me to a generic stardock streen with NO help what so ever. The news page for the 1.6 update doesn't actually have a download option. so how do i down load the patch?

Well thanks for the help in advance.

Open Stardock Central. In the left pane click on 'Games' (second from the top).
In the upper right pane you should see 'Galactic Civilizations II'
Expand that tree, and in the 'Action' column you should see an 'Update' button for each component of the game that has an available update (you may need to select the component to see the update button). Just click to start the update.
It can take awhile, depending on server load, ISP speed, the particular update, etc.

At the bottom of the lower right pane there are options for 'Show pre-release versions' and for 'Auto-archive on application update'. Pre-release versions are beta versions, and they may contain (or fix) certain bugs. Auto-archiving will let you easily revert to a previously installed version.

It may be annoying, but it's not very complicated.

You can also start the game (DALaunch.exe), then click on the update game button on the splash screen menu. That will take you to Stardock Central and check for updates. Don't wait for a whole new version to come out; you can get incremental updates too. However, don't expect to download a patch; your game gets updated directly.

Cheers.

is there any way to patch the game without installing "Stardock Central"?

anyhow.. does it pay?

was the annoying weakness of the not-actualising minimap fixed?
after all, this would be the most important reason for me to patch the game...

PS:
where in the abyss of the forums is this topic?
found it via search, but it seems not to appear in the mainlist...

What is your version of the game?

In the Galciv II main forum but not in any subforum.

You can find the actual version by opening the debug.err file (located in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 (\Dark Avatar - depending on which...) with Notepad.

At the top you will see something similar to:

Debug Message: Version v1.5 last updated on: Thu Jan 11 13:39:19 2007

If you have the Gold version (DL and DA combined) you will have 2 debug.err's, each in their own folder. And if you have not updated Dark Avatar, it will probably be version 1.5.

And, you would have to update via Stardock Central, as there are no stand-alone updates for DA in the Downloads section of this site. The most recent stand-alone update is for Dread Lords, version 1.4X. (and DL 1.5 is available only through SDC)

so it's not "Gold", only the one that is called "limited Edition" (Metal Hardpack)
it's Dread Lords, only.
Debug Message: Version v1.0 last updated on: Mon Feb 6 12:52:05 2006

The most recent stand-alone update is for Dread Lords, version 1.4X

fair enough... where to download it, pls?
