Necessity - Real Time Clock on GalCiv game interface

I don't know if others have suggested it, but Gal-Civ 2 has destroyed my credibility and punctuality.

I hope that there will be a MOD or some interface options that shows the time in real life. I started playing gal-civ yesterday morning on a huge map, and very soon I discovered that the skies went dark...and its 8:38 pm when I flipped my cellphone...

Speaking of which, the fact that my GNN robot encourages me to continue my addiction when I try to leave doesn't help ;_;

A real time clock would be a fantastic addition to the game. It would finally bring an end to my getting up out of the chair with one leg asleep, going into the kitchen, and seeing that it is almost 2am.

Another nice addition to put right beside that would be another clock that tells you how long your session has been...

This is why sell phones make lousy watches. Get a wrst watch or put a clock on your desk, in -game clocks are fine and all but such a thing should never be a "necessity."

Personally I just put a little alarm clock on my monitor's base. Blends right in (same color as the monitor's casing, same width as the neck, and same depth as the pedestal!) and makes it easy to tell time regardless what I'm doing, for only $5

That sounds like a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease! If a watch or alarm clock doesn't help, try some meds for your OCD condition. Better living through chemistry . . . and it won't nag you to take out the garbage or make you sleep on the couch if you play too much

Yes, but then again, Ritalin won't make you breakfast.

i thought when DL first came out, SD posted a news bulliten at some point about the various widgets that could be modded into GC because of how its based on windows blinds, or one of their other GUI enhancers. hmm...

...but searching isn't as easy as i thought it'd be. i remember the same someone also came up with a simple MP3 player for the GC2 interface as well... or i'm not remembering accurately at all.

I could be able to mod in a clock, will have to look into it though.

I'd forgotten that rumour about an MP3 juke box of some sort that cohabits well with the game. The wiki even suggests some function like that was around in planning or early beta. (COMMA and PERIOD are supposed to be previous and next track keys for "when using playlist," but I've never seen a way to build and activate a playlist.)

Re portion control, a mere clock won't be enough sometimes. When I'm being very bad, I might use my kitchen timer, which has a very obnoxious, extended alarm. It also never hurts to drink vast amounts of water. Getting up for a wee can make you notice sunset (or sunrise) approaching and give you a chance to break free.

Mine doesn't help in that field much. It's usually after I'm tired of playing Galciv2 that I pry her away from her computer. Not always, but most of the time.

Hehe.

I remember that in Moo3 there was a timer and an alarm clock feature built-in to the game. It was very useful, I wished other 4x games had it.

I defnitely would like a real-time clock on the GalCiv screen. My gf calls the time I play GalCiv "galactic-time", because there seems to be a time-dilation at about a 6:1 ratio. What seems like 5 minutes to me ends up being about 1/2 an hour in reality. This game is one of those "just one more turn" type of games that is difficult to stop playing. Over the weekend I played from 1 AM Saturday night until 3PM Sunday. The 58,000 point score was very satisfying. Luckily, my gf knows/accepts that I need to do this sometimes....

So yes, please put in a real-time clock. My gf will thank you!

Can't GC be played in a regular Windows screen so that you can see the bottom Windows bar? I play full screen but i thought you could play the other way too. That way you can see the clock already on your screen. Having the Devs do this seems like a waste to me.

Playing windows degrades performance (for me) to the point where it's not worth it, and since the minimum resolution takes up the entire screen anyway, there's no real point.

Maybe the devs need to add a wife to the game instead of a clock? Her face could pop up now and then to nag at you and tell you "all you do is play that stupid game, why don't you spend some time with me for a change?".

Wouldn't that get GalCivII an AO rating? Oh, wait, never mind, we're talking about an old married wife, not a newlywed bride.

Careful with that "old" word, there. Meaning's a bit slippery on ye galactic scales...

Yes, it can. There is an option to to have fullscreen or windowed mode. But don't forget to set your desktop resolution greater than the resolution set for GC2, and that the minimum resolution for GC2 is 1024*768

Well, I tried adding a clock to the main screen DXPack, but got a crash when I tried to start a game .

Maybe you could change to pic if you want to one from your private "wife" collection.
