Minor tweaks that would make a big difference

My suggestions to the developers of GalCiv2:

1. On the planet screen, each of the icons represents an improvement. Though the graphics are pretty, it would be nice if they had a little mini-icon in the bottom left of the icon representing what TYPE of improvement it was. Like Research, or Economy, etc.

2. On the same note, it would be nice if the improvement icon had a mini-icon on the bottom right showing how MUCH X the improvement was generating (research points, money, etc.).

I think both of these things would make it easier to manage lots of worlds and also easier to learn the game.

3. Instead of alphabetical order, the improvments should be listed by TYPE. Otherwise everytime you upgrade a technology (Xeno Research -> Research Centers) it's position in the list changes. It makes hunting down what you want more difficult.

4. On the trade screen, if you could see the value (in research points) that a technology costs, it would make trading SO much easier. Again, if they could be grouped by type instead of alphabetical, we wouldn't have to uses a reference sheet to figure out what to trade.

I think that any improvements that make it easier to see cause->effect relationships of a user's actions make the game much easier to play and learn.

Well, I don't get it. Why are you requesting more icons to learn?

The problem is that as your planets upgrade their improvements, the icons change. If you're managing 10+ planets, it's to assess quickly what you've built on a world. It's mostly a speed thing. Also, if the icons are intuitive, it's easy to learn which structure does what. Maybe a hammer for production, a bag of gold for economy, a loaf of bread for farming, etc.

The improvement symbols are really not that hard to remember. I think they all look different enough. And if you want to know what something is you just click on it and the bottom of the screen tells you what it is and what X the improvment is generating. So what you're asking for is really already there.

As far as the techs, the number of weeks it will take to research is much more useful information that the number of RP it will cost. I'd rather see... 5 weeks than 3000 RP. especially since you can adjust the slider to change the number of weeks. Also, a grouping is not necessary since you have the whole tree with everything grouped.

I think you will find that you won't need these things once you play the game for just a little while longer.

All of the OP's ideas would be nice improvements to tidy things up a bit. Good suggestions.

+1 from me on that.
