Orbital Fleet Managers: Love' em? Hate 'em? Why?

I have a very mixed response to these planetary improvements.

I never build them b/c I never leave serious firepower idle in planetary orbit. They clutter my build queue b/c they are never "obsolete" and they need upgrading to something useful when I capture them.

I *love* finding them on enemy worlds when I'm in a mop-up phase; one quick fleet battle is much less tedious than firing many times on a planet. (My machine is way below spec, so this stuff takes time even w/ graphics turned almost entirely off.)

I *hate* the fact that they force a fleet battle when there is only a single ship in orbit.

Please talk amongst yourselves.

You can make it so it never shows the battle, just the results, you know.

I'm new, but I've never used them. Never had to defend a planet yet- the AI is too weak still, I'm over half the tech tree ahead of anyone. Need to crank it up some more.

Hate'em on my planets, love'em on enemy planets.

I'm "inbetween" on the issue. I like them because if I don't see an enemy coming and they attack my planet by surprise, I have a fleet to defend it. But they also take up too much space on my worlds.

Which is why I wish that the Hyperion fleet Manager (which is supposed to give all of your planets a free orbital fleet manager) was Actually in the game!!!

I too, like them on enemy planets so that I can wipe out their forces faster without all that tedious clicking and waiting.

I would have to agree with everyone here, I never use them for myself. They take up one space too many. Plus I prefer to avoid war altogether, and by the time I do need to build up a military, I prefer to build massive, near-invincible ships rather than fleets of logistics-demanding fighters. Hell, I rarely even leave ships in orbit, I just fly around and hunt down ships before they get near my planets. But, I do enjoy how it speeds up invasions of enemy worlds. In fact, all of the other defense buildings are useless to me, like the Omega defense center. Again, they take too much space.

I'm with everyone else so far. Never building 'em for myself, build over them when I capture an enemy planet. Think about it, on a class 10 planet, it takes up 10% of the world's capacity! Same with the counter espionage thing - that building tile is too precious to use for something like that.
