Metaverse League -- Team A

Hello fellow team A members!

These settings will be pretty tough for me at first. I usually do play medium maps, but I've never even gone for a tech victory! Any advice would be appreciated.

Good luck to everyone in this new league.

Greeting fellow Team Aers (boy we need a name). I haven't play to a tech victory for over a year, but thinking of going neutral for the first time in a long while to get them Discovery Spheres   . Never played with those settings before, so I have to see what kind of planet count you get out of it. With slow tech rate combined with lower planet count it could take a while, but skipping all unnecessary tech's would speed it up some. We also need to try to work on that highscore bonus. I'm not sure how our team is on the scoring front(haven't looked at profiles yet), but we all know there is a couple of scoring machines on other teams. Hopefully the setup will reduce their high score potential somewhat.
If we get our private forum at The Core, we can go into more indepth strategizing. Not sure if our whole team is registered at The Core, But it only takes an email/verification thing and your good to go. I'd like to hear more about what you guys are going to work on, but privately would work better.

Sounds good. Could someone tell me when we have a thread at the Core? I'll have to register myself.

*ahem*

'The A-Team'?

Seems to me that Tech victory would be a perfect reason to start trying that all-labs strategy. I haven't read anything about it, but I suppose AIs will be random opponents. With a bit of luck and some diplomacy, it should be doable. At least at my current difficulty.

Well, the A-Team did have 4 members. Who's Murdock?

Tech victory isnt too tough. Slow research will make it a little harder. I like the "A-Team". Theres 4 of us. One of us can be Hannibal, B.A. Barrackus, Face, and Murdoch. Sweet.

So couple of options for a tech victory. You can go Altarian, max out research bonus, political party research, and go all labs would be one option. That leaves you somewhat weak militarily and you will be hurting for money.
Option 2 is probably what I will do. Either Terran or Drath for the Diplomacy, probably Drath. Put bonus points in research, DIPLOMACY, and economy. Get research treaties, get trade routes, and get other nations to fight one another. Thats why I'll prolly roll it Drath-style.
Option 3 would be fun to max out points but you will have to pull it off pretty fast or the years will add up and detract from score. Be the Korath or the Arceans or something. Beat the crap out of everyone down to 1 oe 2 races to up your conquest score then sit on your butt and win by tech victory.

Regardless of what you choose, going neutral would prolly help for neutrality labs.
Hope that helps a little )

I have some ideas on the scoring aspect of it, but you got to make sure since all victory conditions are enabled that you don't get 75% or more of the galaxy or you'll get the influence win. If you do find yourself with too much influence you can give some planets to the weakest race and bring it down before the ten weeks are up( I guess it's still the same in DA). I'll be playing DL, so that will probably alter how my game plays out from those on DA.

This is going to be fun

Edit: The A Team is fine with me, but I'm to ugly to be Faceman

The all labs strat should work nicely. Just remember to set your sliders to 100% military, focus military and build as many influence starbases as you can. Distribute them throughout the galaxy and remember to put transports next to every AI's planet.

Yup. That should do it.

Nice strat there Motti. Make sure to spread that around to all the teams, we wouldn't want any left out .

DethAdder, that picture has me totally psyched!

In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... The A-Team.

It's sort of hard to see them going for a tech victory, though . . .

Hey fellow ex-crack-commandos!

I loved it how my plan came together!!! I just posted a score of 8120. I'm not sure if that's a good tech victory or not. Of course, I'm sure the settings will change the scores quite a lot, and I have no idea what goes into scoring a tech victory. I'd think it's not much more than RP spent, but who knows? Anyone have any idea? Well, no matter the answer, at least I can wait awhile to see some other scores and determine if I want to replay.

I found the tech victory to be especially interesting at first (probably because I've never done it before), but especially boring at the end. The end was a lot of turn-button mashing.

Let's get a private thread on the Core, and then I'll tell you how I achieved the victory. It's definitely not how you'd expect, though it's not totally out there, either.

Will someone be in charge of getting us a private thread? Is that even possible? Sorry, but I'm not web or computer savvy, so I can't help much with that.

I'm sure the Core will accommodate us and I believe Mumble is checking into getting all the teams private quarters there, but I'll check with him and see how it's going.

That was quick. I can check some threads over at the core. I know there is one explaining what's different about the Tech victory. If it's how I think it is then you may still be able to pull off some pretty decent scores, Because you still have the four basics going into scoring Mil.,Econ.,Tech and Soc. It's just the overall multiplier or something that gets nerfed by type of victory. Like I said, I'll check and get back.
I'll get to feeling out the settings tomorrow and see how it goes for me.

I was thinking that just as i read the post!

Glad to see you out and about Commish.

What I found was some old info, but if it hasn't changed drastically the only difference a tech victory is in scoring is the end multiplier.
Basically
Sum of the four scoring categories divided by number of turns. Then multiply by Tech =100, Influence=125, Alliance=175, Conquest=250.

Like I said this is very old info so the numbers have likely changed a little, but the basics I believe are still in place.

Thanks. I love playing around with them and it helps me learn more of what I can do with my image editing software, since I just started using it recently(had the program a year).

Actually, you could probably do this as well but I guess I should check it out a bit first in the moderators area. If we set these up like we do the Empire forums then one person (the captain if you've picked one) would be the moderator of the group. However that was more with the old forum setting where the group mod had the ability to add and delete members directly. With the new forums an admin has to add/delete members so perhaps there's not really any need to have a specific private forum mod.

I guess I'm kind of talking to myself a bit, but yes I'll check out what we want to do for these in general and once we've decided that pretty much anyone familiar with the Core could request this themselves.

In the meantime a name would be good although it looks like you've settled on the A Team. Are we having team captains?
Not sure on the team captain aspect. I don't really see a need for it unless the private forum would require it. Just let us know when it's clear at the moderator level and I'll put in the request( To Drengin right?).

Good luck to all the league players out there

The captain idea was brought up when we were talking about doing one game but having different teammates do different victory types. It looks like everybody is playing the same game so there's no need to "assign" the different victory conditions so I don't really see any need for team captains. Also as I mentioned there's no real need to have a captain just to have a private forum, so I would say at this point I don't see the need for captains. Of course Neilo is the commissioner so it's his call about captains.

I put a post in the mod area about starting up private forums for each team but don't yet have a response. It's more that Drengin needs to say it's OK to do it this way and then any admin could set it up.

Good luck to team players... You're gonna need it! And let me guess, you're all Murdock
Reply #22 Top
Well, I guess if I'm reading Neilo right here we will need a captian for future rounds. I'll vote for Mac.
Thanks for the vote, Adder. Once Fall comes, though, I won't have a whole lot of time. But I don't expect being a captain to take too much time.

If anyone else would at all like to do it, please speak up. I don't particularly care one way or the other, and so it might be better to have a captain who actually wanted to be one

Mumblefratz just said in another thread that we can have a private forum at the Galactic Core, but it's much easier to set it up once we're all registered. I'm registered so far, so I'm asking whether you other three are. Once you are, I'll start the process to get us a private forum.

I just registered there, but so far I'm still waiting for the activation e-mail.
