Is there a defense against Spore Ships?

Is there a defense against Spore Ships? Other than shooting the ships down before they arrive? I'm a NUBE Those ships are starting to get on my nerves LOL

keep an attack ship on every planet to defend against tranports/sporeships

I prefer to leave my planets relatively undefended against the Korath and take the fight to them and keep all their planet shipless for my invasion forces.

You must have a ship in orbit of a planet to stop transports and spore ships.

Tip; I recomend leaving 1 planet ungarrisoned in a strategically convinient location where you can easily pick off approaching spore ships and other transports. They will be attracted to the ungarrisoned planet.

tip; you can build tiny hulled ships with no engines or even no weapon to garrison planets. The idea being that they will be much quicker to build, also typically speaking, more powerful ships in garrison of a planet would just get killed anyway, so whats the difference between watching a ship with weapons and a defensless ship blow up? none at all!

The best way to defend against spore ships...

is to have the spore ships!!! Try playing the Korath!

Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

I've never had to deal with the Korath before. Are they the only ones who get spore ships? I thought they were until i noticed that there is a template for a terran spore ship. I guess you can trade the tech from them?

So if you are the Korath and you use a spore ship, do you then need to send a colony ship to the planet? Can someone else claim it before you do? If it becomes a Korath-only planet, is that for the entire remainder of the game?

BTW,,, love the idea of chasers.

No you can't, but you can create a custom race that uses terran ship style, and have the super exterminator super ability.

Nope, you get the planet with an almost non-existant population. It makes it easy to get your planets back from them quickly (or to lose them as the Korath). Their freshly exterminated planets are so vunerable, I've actually seen the Korath in my games switch to normal invasion tactics. Clearly the AI can realize how quickly they can lose their spoils of war.

Actually you mentioned a serious problem with the AI Korath. I have never seen my Korath AI ever have a ground troop attack value of 40 or higher. When you get to the ground wars against them I can easily fight them with population odds far greater than 2 to 1 especially if I use my favorite mini-soldiers attack. I find using mini-soldiers on those darn Spore ship makers to be quite the karma pill hehe

Try using spore ships as offensive weapons, not as conquest ones. The goal is to kill the enemy population, toxify their planets (if they don't have extreme colonization that alone can screw them) and carry out terror attacks using high speed ships against their high-value planets. Their fringe worlds, I'll use traditional invasion to get it on its feet right away. . . unless they don't have toxic reductors, in which case I'll spore it anyway and drop off some crew >XD. In other words, the goal isn't so much to capture the planet as it is to sow chaos and discord in their ranks.

I would use it more for a blitzkrieg. Kill their economy and reduce the number of planets my limited transports have to invade.
