AI doing absolutely nothing

The AI in my past couple games has done pretty much nothing at all. None of the AI races have colonized outside of their home system. The graphs for research, industry, etc. are completely flat. The only sign of activity I can see is an AI scout/flagship wandering around every now and then.

My earlier games didn't have this problem. The only difference that I remember is I kicked the difficultly up to "tough". I was playing on challenging before. Randomize intelligence is also turned off.

I'm playing DA 1.61.090 on Windows XP x64 dual core AMD.

I'd be happy to supply a save game or anything else that is needed. Just let me know what you need.

I have had this one every now and then, its now rare, I used to get it a lot. I have heard others also get it once in a while. For some reason the AI seems to shut down and do - literally - nothing. All you can do is shut down the game and restart another. Calkwalk and sometimes Easy has pretty much this effect anyway, but it does seem that there is an on going 'bug' as it can happen at higher difficulty levels. When it occurs, a tell tale sign that you are onto a loser is all the AI sphere's of influence remain unchanged, and its halfway through game year one. As soon as you see that, bin the game and restart another.

Dont let it put you off, it is rare.

Only if you use Ctrl-N to restart a galaxy. IMO this is not a bug, but a perfectly fine penalty for constant restarting

But in all seriousness...

What happens is no matter the difficulty level you set, sometimes on a Ctrl-N all AIs are set to drooling fools - cakewalk level. In the first release of DA this would happen on every restart (for me, made one campaign mission I lost very strange on the second run through). Its rate of "procing" has been significantly reduced in future patches.

To see if this happened, as soon as you meet an AI go to the foreign relations screen and check their "Misc" info tab - it will tell you their intelligence level.
