missing ship textures?

hello, all.

i recently downloaded DA and i find that i have this wierd problem. see, in GC2, everything seemed to work fine, except for a small video glitch that i fixed by turning of the anti-aliasing. however, in DA, i still have that problem even after turning off AA as well as not being able to see ship or starbase textures. they all appear as solid white outlines to me, with no visual anythings inside. im failry sure im running the latest version of GC2:DA, as i only downloaded it earlier this week, and i know i have the latest graphics card drivers for my graphics card, so if anyone has any suggestions on where to start, then im open to hear it.

thanks for any suggestions, guys

Try disabling the 'use enhanced ship rendering' option in the game's settings.

i tried doing that, and everytime i tried to load a map i got a fatal error from my graphics drivers. restarting fixed it until i tried to load the map again.

i re-enabled it and the problems back to square one.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Note: If running on Vista with DA 1.6b2 or later, the debug.err is now located in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar.

Hi there. I have the exact same 'problem', which is in no doubt caused by my very old GeForce2 MX 400 card, which is not DirectX 9c compatible I'm told. The question is: What is 'enhanced ship rendering"? And where do I switch it off? All I see in the game options is 'Disable textures' as a whole, which of course makes all textures go away and the ships translucent (no surprise).

Can I play with old Dreadlords non-enhanced rendering textures or something? Is there an option in the settings I have overlooked? Is there a settings menu I have overlooked?

It's a different problem, but yes, that would cause missing textures (though ships will at least be painted the race color rather than being flat white).

Enhanced ship rendering is only an option in DA 1.6+.

At any rate, the issue is inherent to your lack of a DX8+ video card. You can try the workaround described in reply #2 of this thread if you want to try and get textures working without buying a new video card, though, but I can't guarantee that'll work.

I have 1.6. It is in Video options. correct?

I have also tried the little program in the thread, but it is proving rather disastrous for my system health. I managed to make DA >with textures< run once before my OS decided it can't handle it, great graphics . I think that I have to upgrade my system anyway. Thanks nonetheless.

Edit: Actually, it works if you don't try to change video options while running 3DAnalyze in the background. As long as you start GalCiv normally with the .exe, change options there, quit and relaunch with 3DAnalyze, it works. I have the same performance now as in Dreadlords. Not that this is too good, but anyway...
