why no tutorials for adding or changing a minor race?

well for adding just copy say the akillians entry in the race config file. Then paste it at the bottom of the list, now check the entry above for its 'race id' number, say its 24 then you new one must be 25 and so forth. When naming the race and its planet make sure they are identical! Make sure every line which asks for a name is identical! its annoying but I found trying otherwise is allot of trouble.

Other than that just change the description and the path for whatever images you want to use.

I hate to toot my own horn but you should download my mod Gauntlets Race Mod, as it edits the minors and adds a ton, brining in a total of 24. That way you can see what I did more precisely.

Ha! Just saw your post in my thread lol... your problem is most likely the numbering changing the abilities is fine, I doubt you'll ever get a problem their if you don't exceed say 999% bonus... I wouldn't want to know what happens at 1000 probably nothing bad... but who knows.

ALSO- make sure you are using the DA (assuming you have DA) race config for your new one... not the DL one. I also hope you backed everything up too!

Well I did manage to add a minor correctly now, thanks for the advice gauntlet. However, i found out what the cause for none of the minors showing up before on previous attempts. You see, i was trying to flip races. I wanted to exchange a major for a minor and vice versa. I was able to add a major to be a minor and it shows up fine along with the rest of the minors. But when I make a minor into a major, it does work normally as part of the majors and all, though for some reason that causes no minors to show up now. This is the crux of my real problem. Do you know by any chance what I'm doing wrong here?

Well I think your going about this the wrong way.

Lets say you want to make the Drengin a minor and the Snathi a major.

Take the Snathi info and copy it somewhere for reference... same with Drengin... Then change the Snathi Minor abilities to be the same as the Drengin's and redirect all the graphics to point at Drengin stuff, and then alter the names and descriptions.

That will make a Drengin the Minor.

Now just make a new custom race and call it the Snathi, and emulate the Drengin's abilities, if you can't replicate one of their abilities in the game itself, then just go into their text file and give ti to them there.

Also make sure their is only one Race with the name Snathi, or Drengin having duplicates will screw it up.

I get how to add the Drengin as a minor and how to add the Snathi as a custom major, but I don't get the part about duplicates. Should I remove the Drengin from the major race list in the raceconfig.xml to avoid duplicates? Or simply ignore them during race selection? I know I can solve this easier by simply renaming the minor Drengin race but I wanted to know.

Wouldn’t this also mean I could add more major races to the raceconfig.xml and simply choose among them for my 9 in-game races? Is it the first 11 spots that defines a major race or is it the Civ type (4 for major, 3 for minor)?

I enjoy adding races to spice up the game but does anyone know how to change the shift+Control+D command to pull from your custom minor races and not a random creation? I would prefer to decide which minor races show up which I can only do now by limiting the raceconfig to 8 minor races. Also is there limit on how many can be spawned I tried it a couple times on large maps and only 3 spawned plus the original 8.

The cheats are in the code, so that's not really something changeable.
