can't play as any other race in custom game but terrans

Help, I can only play as the terrans in a game. I have not completed the campain but that shouldn't matter should it? Only the Terrans are available to choose as my player race. Please help

Are you playing the demo? How did you aquire the game? What site did you DL from, or what was the packaging like?

It sounds like you have a scenario set up in the game creation screen. You can only play the scenarios as terran.

Got the game from stardock central. I'm clicking new game and going through the dialog boxes but when I come to the race selection screen I only get terrans as an option.

As Sinisterx says, you most likely have a scenario set (scenarios are made to be played with a specific race). Just set the Scenario back to Normal on the first page of new galaxy creation, and you'll be able to pick your race again.
