THIS GAME IS PATHETIC

So i bought this game yesterday right? My intentions were to play it all day yesterday and all day today before returning to work monday(i stay gone for weeks while at work).

Well now its sunday evening and as i look back on the weekend I can do nothing but weep, as i recall the long, wasted hours of buggy gameplay. I downloaded patches of this, patches of that, patches for the patches i had downloaded, tinkered with computer settings i didnt understand, trusting the word of strangers. Well finally i thought i had conquered the problem of my game freeze. As I happily arose from my computer desk to get another pack of cigarettes out of the car, I hit the turn button. Mistake. When I returned the game had crashed the way it always had- by freezing up, yet still letting me listen to the "wonderful" music. I then cursed loudly in disgust, alt-F4ed the game, logged on to this website, and posted this message.

This is the only game I have ever bought on my new computer that not only didnt work to begin with, but still refuses to work after handfuls of patches and changed settings. I've read some of the posts here, and all I see is a bunch of finger-pointing, blaming things on this that, everything but GalCivII: DA. The problem needs to be fixed on install, not after 12 patches.

I should've listened to my friends and got drunk all weekend. I feel like an ass now for wasting my time while everyone else was having fun. Bud Light doesnt need a patch.

i was wondering if there is a simple resolution to this problem. MY video card is an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE and driver version states 7.15.10.9754. when i attempt to update the driver it tells me it cant find any newer drivers.

There is indeed a simple solution, and it is the drivers. The nVidia drivers included with Vista, and thus most any new machine with nVidia video, are buggy--they fixed this particular issue in the 101.41 release in early March, but it seems OEMs are still shipping with the buggy release drivers.

Windows' built in driver-checking is very unreliable though, and OEMs such as Compaq don't generally carry the latest on their sites, so it's almost always best to get them directly from the manufacturer. In this case that's nVidia, and the latest Vista 32 bit desktop drivers can be found here. Download, install, reboot, and you should be set.

MS Vista is still too new for gaming IMO ... Most drivers like sound and video
still need work. MS Vista is a good OS, but still needs work too. I've beta tested it
and have a copy of MS Vista ... I still haven't installed it. I'm waiting for
SP1 and better video drivers.

MS WinXP Pro w/SP2 is the OS for gaming ....

If you have a new laptop from HP or Dell computers ... Call tech support
and request a copy of MS WinXP Pro... If they don't want to give a copy ...
send the laptop back and get your money ...

I hear Dell is putting WinXP back on most laptops and desktops again ...

I recommend you do your research before you run your big mouth next time . I could see if you looked around and seen tons of people with the same problem but you don't . You need to learn to think before you talk KID...

Your lucky you even got it I've purchesed it from stardock and dont even know how to download the damn gold edition. It looks cool but I purchased it onlien for a reason to play now. But luckily I did it with the CD to. So I can wait for that.

Thats the beauty about Stardock, I had a problem at the beginning but very quick response from Stardock and the whole Metaverse community had me playing in less than a day. BRAVO

My game works fine without any patches, just have the latest video card drivers installed, except I was looking for an update to fix minor glitches.

After you've settled down you will see that the Stardock staff is dedicated to its customers. Matter of fact looks like Kryo already did, like always. Just like when I've needed help with any of my other games...NOT.

Maybe he should buy a console, then he would be able to play without Vista (and video drivers) and without getting frustrated because he didn't find the problem (which was not GalCiv2)

I respectfully disagree on that! If U.S. beer-makers hadn't "lobbied $congress$" to put so many restrictions on imports, and kept a lot of people in ignorance of what real beer is like, they wouldn't be lusting after water with artificial beer flavoring that some slutty commercial pushed off on them ... imho.

If you'd ever been to a German gasthaus, you would know what beer is! Without the marketing campaigns that bud drinkers pay for, bud light wouldn't even tempt a horse! Try and get your dog to drink it, see what happens.

At least Stardock doesn't engage in the same type of marketing, which many other software producers do. In that sense, I'm happy to put up with a few "crow's feet around the beer-girl's eyes", myself. (It only takes ONE German beer to "make them go away" v. a CASE of bud light

ElWhop0: I'm with you on all your reply, and more than agree with this comment. The best example of bullshitting is EASports. Big publicity... showing you, for example NHL 07 for XBox360... Then you buy it for PC and realize that it is a "/$"/!" emulation, with crappy controls (you cannot even use the mouse correctly when making your lines!), crappy graphics and a lack of feature that was not mentionned anywhere! You have a bunch of customers who complain with reason and what do they do to satisfy them? Well they do the same /$%$%!" thing the next year.

Stardock rules. They have an approach that no other gaming company has (except maybe from one other) and please continue on that road. You'll find me along it with a smile of happiness on my face!

This, of course, is in my own opinion.

I can understand the OP's frustration. For a good part of last week I tried getting an old (but still very playable) game to work on Windows XP. But no matter what I tried, it didn't run even nearly as well as it did in Windows 98, and there were crashes plenty. Unfortunately since the developer has since been swallowed up by EA Pains, there's fat chance of seeing a compatibility update. Effectively, old games are being tossed to the scrapyard even though there aren't any new titles that can recapture classic gameplay.

the founder of Sam Adams pointed out the Anheiser Busch has managed to accomplish a high rate of consistency with an exceptionally light beer. that said, yes, it does suck.

but at least microbrewing has become a trend in the U.S., but even still the alochol level by volume of beers in this country, not to mention wines, is just sad. i was thinking the other day, given the great conversations we've had on "serious" topics, i wanted to start a thread on beers, wines and cocktails. it can be found here.
