customizing ships

Can anyone help me out with this? I have figured out most everything else...but I cant customize the appearance of my ships. I can build ships wiht hulls, weapons, defenses and modules... when I try to apply a customized look (like wings or antenas) it wont let me. Anyone experience this before, what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You have to start from scratch. You can't modify the 'stock' ships. Go to the shipyard, and click "new". The parts you have available will be shown. As you learn new techs, new parts will show up. Good luck.

I've experienced this before.

For example, when you add an engine anywhere near the fake prop engine of the ship, the (yellow, blue, red, whatever color) layer dissapears and it just looks like a hole...

Also, with the "massive" size Torian hulls, putting parts on one side of the ship appear on the other, or invisible. =\

Dude, thanks for the reply. What I am trying to figure out is how to add "extras" though. I understand that you have to 'start from scratch', but when I make a "new" ship, I can only add engines, weapons, and defenses...no cosmetic stuff. When I go to the modification tab and select one it wont allow me to add it to my new, custom ship. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem. It won't let me place "extras" on my ships. I also can't position any of the weapons or engines where I want them. Little help please.

Gricerocket--

I just updated my copy of Galactic Civ II and now the "extras" work fine. The ship design interface is totally different than when I first loaded the game. If you haven't downloaded the newest updates yet, you should because I think that will fix the problem.

Good Luck,

I have the newest update, but I still have the same problem Grice does. That's what I meant when I talked about the Massive size hulls. This ship building system is pretty neat, but doesn't work all that great... for example, creating and applying a custom ship style is a f***ing mystery to me. After I actually manage do it to a comp, it goes back to default when I want to play that race with it. -.-

What way you use to add stuff to your ship ?

The "Place" (or "Add", or "whatever it is called") - Button and adding per doubleclick only works with functional components.

To add jewelry you must select one piece and then click on a hardpoint you want to add it to...

Sorry if it is to obvious and you already tried it... but because you just can not add jewelry, i thought you might be not aware....

You are a genius...or I am dense (maybe both). That's what I was doing wrong. I didn't realize that you had to click on the 'hard points' (red arrows) to add the extras. I was double clicking and trying to click the "place" button. It's working now. Thanks a lot my friend.

Lol. I'm not that dense. =P ... I uhh, didn't even notice there WAS any way to place the extras rather than dragging them to the hard points... That's the only way to see how they look first.

What I'm saying is when I put one down on said hardpoint, it doesn't show up on that one, but the one symetrically parallel to it on the other side of the ship. That, or not at all. BUT! It shows up on the top-list of parts as if it HAS been placed... Just a glitch, all I'm saying. But only on the massive-class hulls.

But thanks for trying to help Grice.

Generally if you have a problem like that, it's just a matter of re-aligning the view so that there isn't another hardpoint hidden behind the one you're trying to place the part on.

I know what you're saying. But the only difference is I can place infinite extras on that same hardpoint lol... so unless there's 20,000 hardpoints behind it due to a bad angle, I'm lost.

OR, that hardpoint dissapears but no extra appears (except on the wrong hardpoint on the other side, miles away from my mouse).
