My ships keep getting destroyed WHY

I am at war with the Korath Clan, and I have adapted my defenses and attacks to be affective against them.

Here is the deal.

They have 5 ships with a total of 120 missile attact and 30 shields.

I have 4 ships with 90 Missile and 98 Point defense.

As I see it to counter his missiles I need point defense.

So When my ships attacks his, he as no defenses against my attacks and I have plenty of defenses.

Yet I always get my bottom handed back to me. I have tons of protection he as none and I always loose... Why is that?

Thanks for any information

Hi!

You need ONE ship with ~100 point defenses and about 15 attack. If you can not match that, forget defenses on your ships and go with full weapons, 0-2 engines.

That does not seem to make sense...

Can I get a bit more of an explaination?

Thanks

I think he means that if a single one of your ships defenses aren't equal to the the total amount of their combined attacks then they can simply pick off your ships one by one with all of theirs against each of your ships, depending on the tactics employed by them. From what you say it seems that your ships individually have defenses inferior to their ships attack individually and with each one of your ships getting picked off your chances of winning decrease exponentially.

I see.

So having a fleet with combined defense does not really mean anything... If I can't equal them I should just fill in on attqack at least if I loose my ships they will loose theirs as well....

What were the hit point values for the two fleets?

If they were about the same, what you're experiencing seems odd.

Your fleet: 22.5 attack/ship and 24.4 def/ship
Korath fleet: 24.0 attack/ship and 1.0 def/ship

If they have more hp though, I'd understand.

Dark Avatar has always used a targeting formula to prevent you from gaming the combat system like that (from the combat system thread in beta reports):

(Attack / [Defense+HP])

All ships will always target whatever comes up highest on that rating system. So if you load up a ship with defense but little attack, it will have a very low combat rating. The enemy fleet will ignore it until it's weak self is the last one left, then easily pick it apart.

Did you ever TRY such approach? Because if you'd do, you'd know that such a ship would win against described opposition 95+ of 100 battles alone. Yes, ALONE! That's the problem with the new combat model, and the AI, that can not adapt to this fast enough to survive.

Sorry, from the sound of your first post it seemed like you were suggesting using a defense-heavy ship as part of a fleet, not solo. Solo (or a fleet of such ships), it's an awesome setup. As long as you've got enough defense on each ship to completely absorb one round's average salvo from an enemy fleet, you can pretty much operate in enemy territory indefinitely without ever needing to replace the ship.
