As for the score, i was quite surprised, i have no idea what type of scores folks were getting on straight up suicidal games, or if they were even played. I'd guess Purge would have an idea of what scores he was getting before he went down the diplo route....In any case, thought i could care less, it was a pleasant surprise to see a good score for the game time i put in....
It's really an apples to oranges comparison comparing DL galaxies with 350 planets versus DA galaxies with 750 planets. Also the later standalone versions of DL (specifically v1.31 and v1.4x) were significantly different than any of the v1.5 and later versions of DL incorporated into DA which basically allowed you to research, produce and upgrade while bankrupt, none of which you could do in DL 1.4x.
Anyway with that caveat emptor and the knowledge that there has *always* existed at least some minimal form of score "milking", I would say the closest thing that existed to a "straight up suicidal game" were the 300K games played by both Magnumaniac and Syrrus K. Interestingly enough I don't think Purge ever got much more than 500K using his "peace for planets" strategy nor do I think he ever achieved much more than 100K without using it.
Both Magnumaniac's and Syrrus K's strategy depended on early outperformance of the suicidal AI colonization, in general doubling the colonization of a single AI and that was pretty much it.
It really wasn't until I combined Purge's initial development strategy with the 24 MSBA, always getting an Economic Boom on Oct 1st, 2226 and a bankrupting game ending massive upgrade, all of which other than Purge's usage of Diplomacy were of my own invention, that anyone began to come close to the 1 million mark.
It's because of my first hand knowledge of Magnumaniac's game that I always considered him the best colonizer in the game. However I would be loath to mention Magnumaniac's colonization ability without also giving credit to the one person that I believe to be a better colonizer than Mag and that is Sole Soul.
