AI behavior

Just a few things I noticed today.

1. It tends to bankrupt itself every several turns, and repeats this throughout the game.

2. It moves ships back and forth, like a yo-yo.

Thanks

What difficulty/AI intelligence are you playing on? Do you have the latest updates?

The difficulty level was set to obscene. I was using the beta update released on Friday. I noticed the behavior when reviewing the time line chart at the end of the game. The AI's manufacturing and research would peak, then plummet to zero every few turns throughout the game.

Maybe they were doing some rush-buying or had an economy that couldn't sustain their full production potential. Is going to zero really bankrupt, as long as you're bringing in funds on the next turn? I'm really asking, as I'm not sure what the definition is that you're working with.

What if you really could go bankrupt in the game? You'd undergo economic or other penalties for awhile, but your leases would all disappear!

It's possible that they were utilizing a strategy of switching between either 100% in research or 100% in production.

Alternately, their huge production and economy bonuses were indeed causing them to dip below -500 BC fairly quickly... and if their economy was strong enough, the surplus the next turn would allow 100% production for several turns.

Their constant bankrupting of themselves would appear to be an indicator of phenomenal spending capacity and economy, which would mean they were doing very, very well...

While on topic if silly ai behavior...

I played a game on the weekend on tough, where the one of the AI races would keep sending almost all their warships at one of my unarmed ships. It was a sensor ship with no attack/defense and for some 100 turns it would lead a stack of some 80 enemy ships around by it's nose until I built up enough of a fleet to take it out.

The only reason I mention it is that I would have probably lost if all those fleets did not compulsivly try to catch up to my unarmed ship. If they actually went out and harassed my starbases etc. or esorted some troop carriers I would have been in trouble.

Hi!

I've seen that in older versions of the game, and used that "baiting" extensively. What's your version of the game?

It is still happening in 1.6 beta 4. Obscene Intelligence level. I try not to exploit it...but it is hard when they keep following a scout as you try to get it out of danger.

Doesn't seem to happen with trade routes though...just regular ships.

Try see what happens when you have the Galacit Privateer and find yourself at war...Least for me, my freighters went their usual step, and in hot pursuit loads of enemy warships...one step per turn.

What version are you running? I had thought this was fixed in DA...of coarse, my memory is not what it used to be...

And I never build the Gal Privateer anymore...personal preference...makes the game too easy for me.
