custom weapons

I created custom weapons, and defenses.. and to my dismay I found the enemy civilizations using them. Is there any way to make weapons or defenses civilization specific?

Um, huh? If no one can get defenses for your weapons, but you can get defenses for their weapons, you have such a huge advantage militarily that it's not even funny. Why would you even want that?

It was mostly to deal with the dread lords on suicidal such as the defenses, but the 1 weapon is a version of the quantumdriver1 model that does the same damage amount as the black hole gun, but looks better, especially when put in 2's or 3's on a ship too look like weapon turrets, there is also the reduced size to fit more of them on a ship, so bigger custom ships can have vast weapon arrays, but I didn't want the other civilizations to get them. All in all, the main reason is why not?

HHHHHMMMMM? would that not be a certain version or language of CHEATING? Not meant to offend anybody.

Yea, it pretty much is cheating, but since I've already beaten the game without cheating, I'm curious to see how much crazy stuff I can set up, and if there is a way to make weapons/defense that are civilization specific, it would likely lead to me creating civilization specific tech tables so each civilization would have access to different stuff. All I want to know though is weather or not its possible to set techs/objects so only a certain civilization can access them.

There are a couple ways.

Make the required tech IMPOSSIBLETECH, and include it in your .raceconfig file. Then no one else can have it.

Put it at the end of the tech branch (or branching from where ever you like) and make the cost so outlandishly high that no one will be able to research it in less than several years, and again just give yourself the tech in the config file. They will still be able to research and use it, but it will be a very long time before they can.

Actually, I found a way to do it, but it requires changing stock race alignments. If you set the techs for the items to a certain alignment, you access them by researching xeno ethics to become the appropriate alignment, and since the stock civilizations stick to the alignment their set at they cant get them. Bada bing, problem poorly solved.
