Race Dread Lord Game Mechanics

How do they work?

I have been trying to find out what the Dread Lord's starting abilities are and the game rules that they work on. From observation, the Dread Lords do not operate like any of the other major or minor races. If anybody could tell me the game mechanics they operate on, it would be greatly appreciated.
