Ok, possible stupid questions here about Asteroids.

I just got Dark Avatar last night, so I don't know too much about. One thing I did notice however was something weird going on with the frequency of asteroids. In the beginning window I set Asteroids to abundant, and the little border around the edge was red...shouldn't it be green? And if I set it to rare the border was green. Perhaps I'm not grasping why the computer seems to think asteroids are bad, so if you could explain it I would be most grateful.

But that wasn't all, even if I did set the asteroids to abundant, I would get one field in my home system, and after that my miner would go streaking off into oblivion. Zooming out revealed its destination to be about...3 sectors away I believe it was. It was a gigantic map by the way. And it was about the same when I set it to rare to see if the game had some opposite glitch. Are they really supposed to be THAT rare? Again, any explanation would be very much appreciated.

Just a mixup in the icons.

Asteroid fields can only spawn around systems, so if that was one of the nearest systems, then it makes sense.

Ok, just a mix up in icons. Thanks

But as for the other, I had stars, planets, and habitable planets all set to abundant. By the time my miner had finished with my home system I had explored at least a dozen systems, none of which had asteroids. *shrugs*

Really? A mix-up? I thought it was on purpose. The boost to production seems to be outweighed by the annoying reduction in speed imo. (If asteroids are abundant then there's a downside in that you must circumvent or go through them at a crawl.)
