Updating freighters

Straight and simple: are there any reasons to upgrade the freighters of your established trade routes to a new version? I mean, if I have a trade route with - let's say - the Paulos and then I research better engines and life supports, that allows me to build a quicker freighter with a larger range, has it a sense to kill the trade route with the Paulos in order to reestablish it using the new freighter?

Basically, No.

Some far out considerations that MIGHT mitigate that (in YOUR mind) might be:
1) Sometimes it pays to kill an underproducing TR and reestablish a generally more profitable (longer) one, with a faster ship to get it in operation sooner.
2) Faster freighters on the routes may out run some raiders (pirate or enemy) and therefore require less replacement.

I generally just rely on the general technology increases to speed up my freighters, and I try to build the Galactic Privateer if I am very trade dependent for economic balance.

Minifreighters go 1 tile per turn no matter how fast the original was.

Depending on where the trade route is I sometimes up grade frieghters to have more sensors. Its nice to see more of the space around my trade areas cause I use the minor races as trade partners and I want to keep tabs on them so I can make sure they stay alive.
