Favorite Race

It's a toss up between Torian (Super Breeder) and Thalan (Super Hive). For exactly that super abilities.

Krynn and Yor share third place. With Krynn and massive espionage you can play a completely different game, and the Yor... I just like them.

Is it just me, or does the AI Krynn, benefiting from massive bonuses, basically dominate every game if left unchecked?

I always play a custom race. Is there any reason not to? I mean, can't you basically create any one of the races using custom?

Specify weather you are playing with Dread Lords or Dark Avatar.I don't really know what special race abilites are.

It's all in my signature line.

@JeremyG, most of the 'canned' races get ability bonuses that are out of reach for custom race creation. Take a look at the Drath, Krynn, and Yor stats for extreme examples.



Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

The Snathi. They remind me of the evil squirrels here at UCLA.

Korath. I simply don't want to deal with long wars, so I commit genocide in every war.

Drath are fun for getting others to fight one another, but for some reason I love playing the Korx, even though the super ability is kinda lame. Trading is nice for some needed cash, but usually ends up pointless after a few wars kill off your trade routes.

I have never played anybody except the humans. But then again I have only played 8 or 9 games.

The humans seem pretty lame to me. But the learning curve was a bit hard for me so I thought keeping with only 1 specie it would be simpler.

The Yor.

Because they kind of remind me of Cylons.

And I like their superability. Combine it with a starbase module that slows you enemy down, and you can run circles around them.

The Korx. You can get a large trading empire going early by using trading ships as explorers, and I love evil capitalists!

I like peace-loving species. Especially when they kick the **** out of evil ones. =] And plus, I don't know why, but I'm horrible at the game when not playing Torian... Its strange, so I'd count them as my top favorite.

The Thalan are second for me, because I always thought insectoids were cool. Like some mega-evolved super ants. Ants ftw.    The Korx, too, are cool and the only evil race I like. Like a race of Boba Fetts.

I have a problem with the Yor, though. How come you need farms to sustain a robotic population? And if they're robots shouldn't they have zero morale rating, and be able to colonize any enviorment (well, except aquatic)? .... And what the hell do they need money in taxes for...?

In DL, I play as one of three custom races I have made. But if I have to choose between the standard races, I would choose the Drath Legion, for their superior diplomacy skills, and their morale/economic bonus (which I view to be inherently the same thing because they are linked through taxes). They also have some good starting techs. Plus, I just like their style, the whole 'puppetmasters behind the scenes' strategy.
