ship pictures distorted

Hi.

The ship pictures some times gets distorted. I'm speaking of the ship pictures in the interface bar and the "Build Ship" selection menus and the Shipyard menus. Tship pictures in the playing field and in combat are fine. However, some times if my custom constructor is attacked, only the base hull is animated, without any structures or attachments.

It's as if the pictures were sliced horizontally and then staggered. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it comes, I usually have to delete all my save games to resolve the problem.

It affects both core ships and custom ships.

I'd post a screenshot, but I don't know how to take one.

what are the states of your computer? i haven't hear of anything like this happening before but it sounds like you graphics card or CPU.

I'm playing it on my Acer 1691wlmi laptop. It only has 512 MB of ram that is shared with the Intel graphics chip.

Except for the distortion of the ship pictures in the build menus, it runs fine. Well, huge games take forever to reload.

Do you have dual core? (if you dont know what dual core is it's a computer with 2 mother boaders)

A Dual Core is a CPU with two cores. Not two mainboards, not two CPUs. Hence the name 'Dual Core'.

My guess would be the onboad Intel graphics is to blame, especially the shared memory. Try deactivating all video options and see if it helps, also get the newest driver for the chipset.

It's a single core. I'd bought the system a few months too early

Some times, rebooting the computer will fix the problem (not guaranteed).

Erasing all my save games seems to fix the problem each time.

This is a problem on your end. If you will:

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. If this is a DA report, you'll find the debug in C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2\DarkAvatar instead. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

Be sure to copy the debug immediately after the error occurs; if you start the game again, the debug will be erased and recreated for the new session.

Note: If running on Vista with DA 1.6b2 or later, the debug.err is now located in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar. (per Kryo)

I had the same problem, maybe even worse: No design, just a white shape of the ship. It begins in the civilazations menu (before starting the game) and also continues in the game itself. After uninstalling the last beta of DA, everything is fine again.
