Custom Starbases

I've hammered through 'Search' and haven't found much (actually, I haven't found ANYTHING). I know it's possible, but I just don't know HOW one creates custom starbases. From what I've gathered it's a matter of renaming an existing shipcfg file, but I'm at a loss as to what said naming schema is.

Simply find the Starbase shipcfg files (S0_CultureStarbase0.shipcfg, S0_EconomyStarbase3.shipcfg, etc) in Data\ShipCfg, back them up, and replace them with the shipcfg files of your new designs. There are five 'levels' for each type of starbase that you'll need to replace.

Odd, didn't see those before...

Okay, next question. The starbases in question are all prefixed with S0 - are you telling me that all this time all races have used the same starbase models and I've never noticed? If I prefix them with EN_ for my custom appearance they won't work, will they.

All races use the same starbase models, right (colored per race). They do need to be prefixed S0_, I don't believe the game supports any per-race starbase configs.

I think its rather silly that no one has built any custom Starbase models when its just as easy as makeing a ship model

I'd give it a go, but I'm a programmer, not an artist.

I find custom starbases to be a bit harder simply because they're less 'organized'. When I make a ship I have an overall design goal and none of that is able to be applied to a starbase, really.

I'd like to just use Omega Shipyards' custom starbases, as they look neat, but they require use of his own retarded version of Kryo's hull mod, and while I like having 'dummy' weapons akin to 'dummy' modules, I really don't need two dozen versions of the USS Enterprise clogging my list of Extras like hair in a bathroom drain.
