I have a problem...

Ok, I haven't played DA in a while(it's too slow) and now the game EXE file is gone.
If I don't play the games for a while the EXE file just disappears. I want to play DA so I thought I'd just re-install it.

SDC's EXE file dosen't work either. So I re-intalled SDC.
Now SDC says I dont have GCII. I tried intalling DA but it says I dont have GCII in the first place. I have DL installed and functional. I could be that the registry dosn't have a record of GCII being installed(formatting).

I don't want to re-install both DL AND DA. I HAVE DL. I have DA pre-installed too but I don't have the EXE file. It just disappeared. I know I never deleted it. I now made backups of the DL exe too. I have the full DL installed.(I was gonna install the beta when I noticed this)

How do I fix this?

when you uninstalled galciv2 did you remember to reinstall DL first then DA?

I don't have the disks.
Can I just give my serial number and have them sent?

I never uninstalled GCII. I re-formatted windows only.

Please help me, stardock.

Losing exe files is impossible unless there is something else going on.
The OS will not simply delete exe files for no reason.
They do not have an expiration date, after all.

If I were you, I would do some very serious checking for viruses and malware (or possibly a user setting that has changed - like 'show file extensions').

Well if you have brought the disc fair and square, you can legally download the exe, or infact the whole game, i think but the downloading both will mean about 1.5gb of storage used, and depending on your connection could take a day or two weeks.

Windows is re-installed - a hard drive is re-formatted.

And either way, you will lose any game settings in the process.

If you actually re-formatted the disk, then of course all the game files would be gone.
(Re-formatting wipes the hard drive clean, as will most 'restore' disks that come with canned computers)

It really sounds like you need a basic computer course.

EXE's don't just disappear on their own, as Moosetek said. But if you completely reinstalled windows and destroyed the old registry (let alone entirely reformatting your drive), then you will need to reinstall the game either way, and reactivate it. Since you seem to have SDC working, just reinstall GC2 then DA through it and you should be set.

entirely reformatting your drive

I just formatted my windows drive ONLY. DRIVE C. I have alot of important stuff on this computer. This is my work/gaming computer.

The entire DA and DL is still there.
I have the EXE of DL. The EXE of DA is missing.
I could re-install the whole DA BUT it says I haven't installed DL yet. So it says I have to install DL too. Can't I just download the EXE file and play.

Isn't a DA EXE download available. Do I have to DOWNLOAD the whole game AGAIN?
That could take upto 2 days.

Btw, I noticed that height maps download on SDC. Whats that?
Enhance my planetary graphics performance. On 250 MB?
Could you guys point me to a post with something on that.

Doesn't matter if their still installed.
If you re-install windows you have to reinstall the games as well.
Just reinstall them in the same place as before, because otherwise they're just wasting space.

No, you can get a program that will re-associate all your programs in the windows registry,,, but i forget what it is called?

lot of help here... people are friendly here, Kryo especialy. like they said, install dl then da.

install dl then da.

IT WILL TAKE TOO LONG WITH MY CONNECTION!!!
I can play DL right now. IT IS DA THAT I WANT TO PLAY!

Just give me a link to a EXE download. I can easily give my serial code and get this all over with. All I need is an EXE.

Can't one of you copy yours and give it to me or something?

If I had DA I would e-mail you the exe, it is small enough for that.
Sorry, I don't.

But, if the exe is missing how can you be sure that other files are not also missing?

Just curious, but, what drive is GalCiv installed on?

Well, if you want the latest DA beta patch you'll have to get the registry stuff sorted anyway (which means a reinstall), as it's only available on SDC.

The core download for DL is only 300MB or so as I recall, and another 250MB for the full DA download (as I said, if you want the latest beta for the speed boost, there's no way around that part, sorry).

If you just want to run DA, you can give it a try with the 1.6 beta 2 patch that Cari posted in the Beta Reports forum. But that was before the big speed boost, and won't help you get the latest version since you still won't have the registry stuff in place for SDC to recognize DL or DA as already being installed.

Next time you format your C drive, maybe you should copy your restore points to another location...then it is only a matter of minutes to re-associate your apps...

Let me just get this straight.

I have downloaded DL again(which I already have)and its all safely tucked away in my harddrive with it's signature in my registry. Btw, you download DL in compressed format so its 147MB to download.

Now to DA:

DA V1.59[b].097 is about 251MB on SDC. This is the non-beta core original un-altered humty-dumpty DA download. The beta with the speed boost is the "HEIGHT MAPS" download at 250MB making a total of 501MB for DA. Right? Makes for about 4 days'(not continuous) downloading.

Copy the watcha-ma-hoogal into the watcha-ma-call-it to do the what?
Just kidding. I know what you said. Or do I?
one question only: whats a restore point?

P.S Forgive my being a noob. I was drunk when I replied to this. WHAT? you don't believe me??? I SWEAR TO DRUNK I'M NOT GOD!!!
(there's a joke in there)

The heightmap download is an additional memory-saving option for both DL and DA. The 'speed boost' is related to graphic engine changes within the game itself in 1.6b4, heightmaps not required.

So is it safe to download the beta directly. I mean should I download the non-beta version first and then update the beta or just download directly?

-Scot
Just download the beta, unless you want to archive the non-beta version for safe keeping.

If you have a ticket open, then you should tell support if their answer didn't solve your problem so they can come up with something else for you.

you should wait, otherwise your query gets bumped back in the queue. Anyway, if your not able to wait, you could always search older threads and see what you can find on this issue?

tried that... i'm just given up, i can live without the upgrades.
