Correct pronunciation of 'Drengin' wanted

I've got to know: is it pronounced according to American English grammar rules as in "Drenjin", or is it the most likely alternative, "Drengun"? (I'm a Texan)

Interestingly, when I visited at Stardock and pronounced it Dreng-in I got corrected very quickly. I tried to find it in my dictionary, but the closest it comes is the word Dreng. which appears to predate the Norman conquest.

Please share with us the source of the name "Drengin", if there is any. Is it from history?

I made it up. The universe that galciv exists in has been something I've been working on for decades.

The Dren-jin (Drengin) are kind of like Klingons except much nastier (i.e. no "honor").

Beeing italian I was so lucky I never had doubts about how to pronounce Drengin LOL
In italian "g" is soft otherwise would had been "gh"
Sometimes beeing limited helps... ;p LOL
Can you belive we don't have KJYWX in our standard grammar? :)

Brad, why not to add some speach presentation of the races as intro? Would clean up doubts like this and be marketing effective...

That would really be something. Perhaps a voice-over during the intro. The three ladies I met when I visited Stardock (Cari, Angie, and the receptioninst (I never did catch her name)) have nice voices.

Gherardo, ciao! sono in Bologna. But I don't think Italian is a good guide to "drengin". There isn't a single word in Italian with "eng" in it, apart from English ones, I don't think! At least, I couldn't find any.

Well, if "drengin", is a romance word, then the closest in English is "malengin", which comes from mal(evil)+engine(contrivance). It means evil machination, ill-intent, fraud, deceit, guile, but hasn't been used much since the 1700s.

There's also the word "dreng", pronounced with a hard G, comes from old norse word for "young man". A dreng is a free tenant (a technical term for his position in the northumbrian feudal society). And "-in" wouldn't be an unusual plural for such a word.

So to answer the pronunciation, we need to know: are the drengin a race of evil manipulators (in which case soft G), or are they upstanding individualistic freemen (in which case hard G)?

Ever considered doing something more with it? Expanding into other areas, or let others play with it?

From the perspective of a rpg designer, this gives me some very interesting thoughts and ideas.
But then again, whenever I see a great thing, I can't help thinking about licenses, rpg versions or Trading Collectible Card Game version :)
