Question about the minimap

Okay, I havent played the game in a long time, and I saw something weird. On the minimap, there are no longer colored circles, where empires are. I dont have it on blind exploration, so where did they go? WIll they show up when I meet races?

I'm not exactly sure which icon it is (I think it is in the second row, second from the left).
You can also edit the Prefs.ini file.
In the Minimap section set:
PaintOwnership=1

Don't feel so bad. I'm sure that there will be 5 or more people who will look at this post and say "OMG, there were icons for the minimap that I could play with?".

Besides, there are probally other people who are too shy to ask your question. They're probally afraid of feeling stupid.
