It's legal, right?

Can I do it?

I really liked one of the soundtracks in GCII so I put it in my iPod and now its one of the 197(actual no. may vary) songs in my iPod shuffle, so since GCII dosn't have copy protection, it's legal, right?

Is it?

Huh, I never thought you'd want a GalcivII song on there. Usually most people find them repetetive.

Em, let me not start about music in GalcivII.. But probably it's legal, since you did pay for your copy of the game (didn't you!), so... But I'm not a legal expert so a Stardockian would be more qualified to answer.

(didn't you!)

I did!

+there is just one song. I do think more then 90% of them are repetitive.
I just like ONE.

Ok, I like two. The Torian song and one of the war ones.

Go for it. As long as you don't let someone who doesn't own a copy of GalCiv II have it, you're fine as far as I'm concerned.

the game FABLE has the best sountrack then I would say HALO

Fable's soundtrack is sort of hypnotizing and entrancing... I don't know.. I guess it'k ok for that sort of game. The sound effects sometimes are disconcerting though, especially for the fireball. It's sounds as if somebody is screaming when it's charging up.

This is illegal. Please report yourself to the nearest RIAA facility for criminal processing.

(Kidding aside, I agree that the music is quite good. Not sure I'd want to listen to it when I'm not playing, though, heh. Best soundtrack I've encountered was for Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. They enlisted some well known gothic musicians like Daniel Ash, Ministry and The Genitorturers to contribute original music just for the game. While that type of music isn't everyone's cup o' tea, it was 100% appropriate given the game's theme.)

I agree wholeheartedly! Each music piece they used was really suitable for the scene. I remember that when my brother was playing the section with the haunted house, we were on the edges of our chairs. The music in the club was awesome as well, wouldn't you say?

Music aside, that haunted hotel scared the living crap out of me.

i would imagine it depends on the composer of the music and who holds the rights to that. if stardock created it internally, like in a "work for hire" scenario, than it would indeed be legal since stardock does not enforce copyrights. but if stardock bought limited rights to the music, ther might be other issues at play.

this actually has me curious, i think i'm going to consult the P.R.O. that i use and hold membership in, ASCAP for an answer. i'll let ya know what they say if i get a prompt reply.

I'd agree that Halo has one of the best game soundtracks. I also thought really liked the Halo 2 soundtrack. When they first announced it, I was definitely a little skeptical of some of the artists that were contributing music (especially Breaking Benjamin), but when the music was in game, it actually turned out to fit quite well.

As far as other games go, I pretty much like all Final Fantasy soundtracks. Nobuo Uematsu is a really good composer, IMO. As far as fable goes, I thought it was kind of hit and miss. There were some excellent tracks, but in other parts I thought it was a little bland.

Heathens! Baldur's Gate (both I and II) and Planescape: Torment are the greatest of all soundtracks. Hitman: Blood Money was also fantastic, much better than I was expecting.

You got my vote!!! Too bad there out of business

Who is out of business?

In case you mean White Wolf, you are incorrect; they actually merged with CCP, the Icelandish company that puts out EVE. And they're presently starting work on a Vampire-based MMORPG. Not sure if that game will be based on the old World of Darkness or the Requiem one. My vote is on the former, personally, though I'm a bit wary of the idea in general. Could be interesting, though...

The software company that did Vampire Masquerades - Troika Games - went belly up after doing the game. Couldn't pay their bills, or so I hear ...

Uh... buddy... there's a neat trick we all implement in our music downloading:

Not asking, nor telling.

That Civ theme song, Baba Yetu, is The Lords Prayer in Swahili - I love it, it has a great catchy feel to it and the African Harmony in it is superb. The story behind its use in Civ IV is interesting. Anyone wanting to pursue further and get the lyrics and background to it can go via WWW Link.

I often set it to loop and listen to it whenever I am on the PC - many a time the evil Drengin and Korath have bowed out to the tones of Baba Yetu - that'll teach them to be heathens
