Problem downloading Dark Avatar

Okay, I just got my internet back. I tried to download Dark Avatar, but i log into stardock only to find that the option for DA was tucked underneath the GalCiv2 game, but had no "download" button. Instead, It had the purchase button, which won't go away. I bought the subscription, which still has until June 23rd. I've re registered my games subscription, nad restarted stardock. How can i get my game?

Have you actually bought or registered GC2 and DA? TGN subscriptions have not given automatic access to all games since the token system was adopted in early 2005.

I have not. I was told that all games would be free. And what is the "token system?"

Back at the beginning of 2005, just before the GC2 beta started, the system was changed such that a subscription gives you tokens to spend on games (getting them at a discount--a token costs approx. $7 but is worth $10 or so towards most games).

Everyone who had an active subscription at that point got to keep all the games that were on TGN at the time, were given GC2 for basically free, as well as ten tokens to spend on future games (though these "silver" tokens expired near the end of last year--normally bought tokens don't expire).

The token system allows more money to go directly to the developers/publishers of the games, so we've been able to get a lot more/better games on TGN than was possible under the old system.

I'm in a similar boat. I just purchased my "digital download" only to find that I can't download the game. I've e-mailed Stardock with no response. Has anyone been able to download an internet purchased version of Dark Avatar?

Thanks,
Terry

Many people have. Note that 1) You need to have the regular game registered to the same account in order to download the expansion, and 2) you need to have purchased it with the same email as you use on your forum/SDC account.

In either case, support can help you. Do make sure you receive an automated reply acknoledging your mail and issuing you a ticket number. Please keep in mind though that support is only available during normal office hours, so you won't get a response from a support tech until Monday at best.

So, if I bought it with a different email account then I need to talk to support?

If you ordered DA with a different email address than you had registered GC2 with, then yes, you'll need to email [email protected] and request a merge so that your GC2 and DA registrations are together on the same account.

I've also just nabbed a copy of Dark Avatar but I'm having a different problem, didn't think it was worth creating a new thread for it though.

My downloads are pretty slow, around 25kb/s, although it sometimes spikes up to 60, any recommendations on how I can speed it up? Or is that the best I'm gonna get?

If you're outside North America, SDC download speeds can be that slow pretty often. I'm not aware of anything that can be done about it on the client end, unfortunately.
