Game Crashes On Boot - SIS Chipset

I have recently bought the game via the web and tried running the game. Unfortuantly it crashes instantly (no splash screen, no loading... just dead).

List of what I have tried:
- I have updated my video drivers and verified that they are dx9 compatable.
- Checked that I am running at high enough resolution (1280x800 in 32 bit)
- Re-installed using the non-beta version (which had the multimedia file)
- Searched the web for anybody else with this problem...

I also looked for a debug.err file, and none is generated. (It doesn't get that far.)

Attached is my system setup... this IS a laptop and it IS running a SIS chipset. (SIS M760GX)

If anybody has any ideas, please let me know.

Could be something running in the background preventing the game starting up.

Also, if you're running from a limited user account try running it from the admin account and see if it still has problems

I tried shutting down everything in my system tray... here is a list of running tasks.

Still no luck...

Also, in an admin account (have full rights)

Lancelot, have you tried running the game directly from the .exe file?

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2
Double-click GalCiv2.exe

You may be having trouble with only the launcher program, since that is usually the only time a debug.err will not be created.

If that works you can create a shortcut on the desktop for the exe file.

Thank you that fixed it! I realy appreciate your help!

You're welcome. Although that did not really fix the problem, it just bypassed it.

Hi Guys,

I've the exact same problem...just bought the game. I've a Dell Dimension 5150, 2.9Ghz P4, 1g of Ram and a radeon x600 256Mb card. Any thoughts anybody as the fix outlined above doesn't work for me.......

iggyolive, please post the contents of your debug.err file into a reply.
It can be found in C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 (\DarkAvatar if you are playing DA).
You can open it with Notepad, then select all the text, copy and paste into the reply box.

Change your desktop to 32bit color.

You should also register and update the game. Many gameplay enhancements and bug fixes have been made since release.
