Can't download multimedia content

The game itself installs without problem. However when I try to download the multimedia content I get an error. Yes, I did upgrade Stardock, yes I did try to change the download server. No luck though Here is the log file, i highlighted the interesting part:

I'm getting the same problem too.

No biggie since I have the discs, but this looks like it might be server side rather than local (everything else downloads fine).

It's being looked into.

customer support mail #1:

If your having trouble downloading, please try the following from within Stardock Central:

-Go to Tools->Settings
-Click the Internet section
-Click the "Refresh XML Data" button
-Change download servers
Run this program: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/clear_cache_sdc.bat

and mail #2:

I just found out that we had a server issue last night and due to that a rebuild of the database is currently underway. You might want to try again in a few hours just updating the regular SDC way.

I hope it's OK to post these here for anyone else who's having troubles. Installation from CD and update via Stardock works fine btw.

I've been having this problem for a long time now and nothing will work. My internet connection is fine since I can post on this forum. Very dissapointing.

I sent an email to support asking since I already own the game can I buy the CD . Just pay shipping. I want to buy the expansion but until this is setteled I am holding off. I just bought a 10 token booster buy. I want preorder sinsbut I need to get some resolution before proceeding.

I had to reinstall my operating system because my computer wouldn't start. That was after I visited the GalCiv2 website when it was hacked. (Thanks for protecting your customers, not!) That was a few days ago. I tried to reinstall GalCiv2 and DA and that is when I ran into trouble of not being able to download the multimedia content. Everything else downloads. I already emailed the stardock support people on Friday, but I'm guessing I won't hear from them until Tuesday. They might actually start working on it Monday because that's when they will be back in the office. This is very annoying. I thought the devs were supposed to be computer gurus? What, did they pay a two year old kid to set up and monitor server security?

The site here couldn't be to blame for your computer issues, as there was no hack. A drive failed in a server, and a minor configuration error was made when the backups were loaded onto GC2's server until the failed one could be repaired. The site that the front page ended up pointing at was another Stardock site; at no point was there any third party attack or risk to users.

Yarlen looked into this download issue yesterday afternoon and everything seemed to be back in order, but if some are still experiencing the issue, it'll need to be looked into further.

So it's incompetence then.

Here is my installing log file. No one is at Stardock to look at it so maybe some one else can make sense of it.

1.0.045 downloads quite happily. Looks like the problem is only with the beta (1.0[rc].046) version, still states the url is invalid on both servers.

Is there an address I can type in on my web browser that will download the stupid files I need manually?
Yeah this sucks, I was considering to buy the new expansion after having been away from the game for quite some time but to come back to downloading it again and not being able to get the multimedia content does not make me want to spend money on this after all. and by the way I tried the fix on reply #5 and it does not work. I simply click install next to Multimedia 1.0[rc].046 under Galactic Civ 2 and it times out after 3 trys... both servers, tried fix, !!!!!    BOOOO STARDOCK   !!!!!

I find it amazing that anyone is still using that old relic of gaming and multimedia nightmares.

Hey idiot! That means it's windows vista! Microsoft Windows Windows NT4, 6.0.8000 is how this debugging thing reads "Windows Vista." What are you running, win95? Or perhaps win 3.1

Your a "veteran" huh. Would of thought you would know more about computers since you spend more time on the forums that I do.

OMG! im not the only one. i cant download anything ether! my serial wont work, my multimedia wont work, my metaverse wont work and everytime i download an upgrade for galciv2 dread lords i have to uninstall the game oompletely and reinstall it. just to get it working again. mine was bought from a huge game store (it's over seas as well) in melbourne so it wasnt an illegal copy.

one whacked up game, i barely works for me.

I have the same problem with the Multimedia Content, and it is Sunday the 13th of May, 2007.

"Invalid URL"
I had the same problem for a day or so and was able to fix it myself today.

When you are in the Stardock Central program at the screen where you download the game, look at the bottom of the window for the Show pre-release versions checkbox. If this is checked, then the installer will try to download "Version: 1.0[rc].046" of the multimedia files. This results in the "invalid URL" error.

If you uncheck that option, your screen will refresh and the version of the multimedia files available for installation will change to "Version: 1.0[rc].045." Note the difference in the final number--46 versus 45. Installing this set works. I am now gaming and have all sounds, video, etc.

The Show pre-release versions option will show you an update that does not exist on their server at present.
Yeah, have they actually changed any of the sounds in the Beta, or is there a few things lacking sound out there I haven't found yet?

Yeah this sucks, I was considering to buy the new expansion after having been away from the game for quite some time but to come back to downloading it again and not being able to get the multimedia content does not make me want to spend money on this after all.

You can still get the current version of the multimedia, just not the beta content. As stated in the reply above, simply turn off the 'show pre-release versions' and download the latest officially released version (you can still use it if you download the beta of the game).

Presumably it will be fixed when 1.6 is released.
