The "Big One"

Well, I've been toying around some with Gigantic maps, with max stars, planets, and habitible planets on Suicidal diffidulty level. 9 opponents. 8 minor civs.

One of the biggest keys concepts I'm seeing on this style on map is sustainable development. Kyrnn seem to be good at this, but I still end up being at 40-50 planets compared to 60-70 average for the A.I. by the time the colony rush is over.

Any ideas or tips?

When a planet is colonized near you by an AI, buy it from them. But you cant wait too long before they say its become important.

Stop colonizing before the AI stops colonizing.

I always have fewer planets than the AI at the end of the colony rush on Gig/Abundant all maps. But I stop colonizing earlier than the AI and get my planets to a truly functional state before the AI. This lets me gap ahead of the AI temporarily about the time the AI finishes the colony rush. While the AI is trying to make its planets function, mine are already firing away...I can then use this gap to jump the AIs before they are ready.

Thought I'd ask this as well, how do I get my Metaverse stats to show?

try and isolate your self from other races by setting up a parimeter (With cheap ships) around your empire then you can take any planet you want inside your empire without having to worry about other races taking them first.

Go here and click the default button by the character whose medals you want to show.

Are you talking about starting an early war? That used to be a good option back in Galciv1. Korath in Galciv2 tend to have pretty good luck with that, too.

no, i mean make a wall of scouts or other cheap vessels, it will stop the others getting in and taking planets.

only your ships can share the same parsect, an alien ship cant move onto a parsect that already has your ships on it.

Do you mean a Great Wall of Thala (or whomever you are playing)?

This would be expensive and counter productive....

You would be spending so much money on building "wall ships" with little to no funds for the rush or war. Furthermore, i can't see how it would be possible after about 5-10 turns my empire's "space" is far to large for this, it would take hundreds of ships. So much so that i'll say that on a gig map this would be impossible.

Have you done this LostHero? If so what size map were you on and what state was your empire in afterwards, i can't see you having the 30-40 planets on average after a rush using this tactic.

it works on small maps and i use a tiny hull with no attachments on it. beside it's only a segestion, there are many other tactics you can use.
No. I don't think i will ever use this.

Sorry but i can't see this working, even on a smaller map. Unless of course you are playing on cakewalk. You would be much better off arming those ships and destroying the colony ships than just blocking them.

Sorry but this tactic makes my laugh.....

Sorry i can't be helpful to you, and by all means play the game as you see fit, but i urge you to try something else.....

but if you destroy the colony ships then you will be basicly be declaring war with every race on the map. didn't think of that did you. another tactic is colonize in the opposite direction to the others. another is colonize all the useless planets (class 9 and under) that the AI don't want.

Of course i did! That's the point....Besides which, the common tactic would be to just build colony ships yourself and take all the planets around you. Remember a planet can colonized with just 1 person so population is no problem. Then it's just a matter of taking care of the "leakers" that the AI send out.

And i'm not too sure what game you are playing where the AI ignore class 9 and under planets. The only planets that the AI ignore are class 1.

I think it is high time you play a few more games before handing out advice that has no merit.

As for your sarcasm, there are players here who could fill a book with things you have not thought of. Shhhh i think someone is buzzing you in chat.......

i play Dread lords, i play on surcidal, i have play over 20 game (not on metaverse), and so far the AI seem to go for the high class planets first then the low class.

Well, that's DEFINITELY not true. AI colonizes whatever it comes into contact with first, except PQ1.

Yep. This is exactly the case and i have not seen anything to the contrary.

Not sure what you are about LostHero, but you really need to pay more attention in your games, and try and leave the fairy tales at home.....(sigh) a wall of ships on suicidal around your entire space....now c'mon (sigh)

How so LostHero ??

Easily. Start game with cheats on, generate 500 ships and teleport them to position you want to form a wall. Piece of cake.

See LostHero, I play metaverse games just because they prove there's some experience behind my words here on forum. Currently we have only your word there's experience behind your post. Unfortunately the content of your post doesn't prove that.

This is priceless!!!

I think this AOL baby needs a change!

Your enthusiasm for this confirms that you are over your head and have no idea about this game.

Go play with your cheats......

Good one. (Makes not for future use)

Stop colonizing before the AI stops colonizing.

Good one, I've done this, not really on purpose. It works well on some boards.

Any ideas or tips?

I try to colonize, towards the AI, to limit the AI's reach away from it's point of origin, and I backfill later. I just concentrate on the civ's closest to mine. On galaxies with tight clusters, I "planet hop," that is when I find a system with two habitable planets I take the larger one and ignore the smaller one until later, even the PQ4 near me. It makes good bait, all the AI's that scout it waste sending a colony ship to it, and I take it at the last possible turn. With the "planet hop" I get a mix of other civ colonies within my sphere of influence. Later I research the cultural domination tech and set up SB's to get them to flip over to my side. It's like getting free colonies. It can be economical to get ready made planet's at the AI's expense.

I play DA on normal. For my play style I wouldn't pick off the AI's colony ships. I like to be good and see how long the different AI's last against each other. You know max trade, everybody is my friend and my ally, giving me research and economic treaties, just a big happy galactic family, slowly falling under my influence. But as an evil civ, why not pick off all those juicy good civ colony ships! I mean everyone has to eat right? They're just targets! But first, extort them for 2000 bc and some tech's!

great idea! you guys have really good stratagies

i just tried out a new one out and it works, before the colony rush takes it's toll set up Infuencer starbases in near by systems, that way when the others colonize it some will turn to your empire! keep upgrading them more and you'll pritty get most of the colonies there.

Nelio! i may be new to the metaverse but i am not new to the game. i have already changed the game so it's represents the 'the saga of the seven suns' featureing the hydrogue, faeros, vandian, wentals, roamers, EDF, hansa, ildiran and theroc. i have started to edit game that cannot be edited AND the reason i have not hear of the cheats is because when you cheat in a game it prove that you cant even win on normal terms. I NEVER CHEAT.

i have no idea why your harrasing me in almost every post i reply too, but enough is enough, i am just trying to help people. never so much as think you can join my empire, or talk to me again.
