DA 1.6 Beta 2 Here

Hey all,

We are having some technical difficulties with the servers but we wanted to get you another beta.  We are still having slowdown issues from the ships, but at least the minimap is much more efficient.  Here's the change log for the beta:

+ FIX: Made it so that your allies won't declare war on you in the mega event Allied War where the good races gang up on you.

+ NEW: Added code to save score data for non-metaverse games locally in the My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder

+ TWEAK: Added dialog to warn you if you start/load a metaverse game with a cheater flag

+ NEW: You can now change the social project (if there is stuff in the queue) from the colony list in the civ manager

+ NEW: The popup for adding money to negotiations on the trade screen will now open with the value needed to make the AI accept the offer (or the total amount in your treasury if they won't accept it).

+ FIX: Minimap and line graphs now uses Direct3D for drawing, which should show an increase in framerate.

+ FIX: Updated the QUICKSTART command line parameter code to work with DarkAvatar's settings (Starts a sandbox game with your last settings without needing to go to the menu.)

+ FIX: The minimap scrolling lag on Vista should be resolved, and scrolling in general should be smoother with better frame rates.

+ FIX: On Vista PCs, the debug.err will now be saved in the Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar folder. (This will not work if you run the exe in WInXP compatibility mode.)

+ FIX: If you turn off the Show Damage Animations option, it will now remove the damage animations from fleets.

1.6b2: performance boost terrific. looks better too. congrats to cari and team.

bugs? rename The Jagged Edge as Jagged Edge so don't get 'the The' in text. Also still recommend that Jagged Edge doesn't use a minor logo that is already in the game. perhaps, jagged edge should just have it's own logo?

i tend, despite it not being reccommended, to save ship designs on top of previous ones - there is some weirdness if you do this (creation of user templates, new designs keeping old bling) just an FYI.

weird ally behaviour - twice i've had an ally saying they'll come to my aid, and then declare war on someone i'm not at war with. not sure if it's a glitch, or politics

my low end rig (PM 1Ghz, 512 Ram, Intel Extreme 2) now performs very well, but *still* occasionally crashes with software mouse enabled. i think i've isolated it to this one thing with this build....i have another debug.err on this issue if you wish it, though have sent in a previous.

i've noted over various builds of late that buying a building can be a bit weird eg 3weeks to go of building production can be extremely cheap (eg 50BC) to complete, when you'd think that 50BC's worth of building would be less than one turn to complete. not sure if i'm explaining myself that well on this one.

once again congrats on 1.6b2 to date.

Thanks for the new Beta!

I was getting really fed up with MTW2 crazy bugged stupid AI, atleast now I can try out GC2 again. Big thanks for the UI updates, the colony management screen additions are welcome and whatever you do to make diplomacy smoother is super! Looking forward to the rest of 1.6!

If you upgrade a design, then ships that are still in production will use the newer design. You should be quite okay to save the design as a new name and then obsolete the old, which saves your shipyard from being cluttered up with lots of old designs.

However I think it might be an idea for there to be a version number tagged onto a design without having to manually type it in. That way, newer designs could be shown preferentially in the shipyard and quick build dialog, with an extra button to switch to and from older designs. That way you could obsolete the obsolete button

Exactly what version should the 1.6 betas be? Iam getting an DA update to 1.59.078 and Iam missing most of the updates Cari wrote in her message. Something fishy here :/

edit:

Ok the usual happened, I check everywhere else but Caris Link below her post

DX 9.0c is required for the game to run to begin with, so I'd expect you already had it prior to this.

Ok, then my computer must have been smoking crack when it said it was updating... Hmm... Wouldn't be the first time... currently, it is a 1999 vintage machine. Yeah, that's it, the COMPUTER made the mistake, yeah...

I think the new mini map work in this beta may have introduced a new (minor) bug.

When I am in the governor manager screen and I highlight an item from the middle column it no longer highlights the relevant locations on the mini-map. For instance, if I am on the starship construction selection and I click on a warship, it used to highlight all the planets building that model of warship. Now it doesn't.

Can anyone else with the new beta confirm this?

If so, I'll send in a bug report.

Stardock Central now has 1.6 beta 3 (mostly data changes, some AI tweaks, fixed the money popup in the tradewnd when you have debt) so I'm going to unsticky this thread.

Purge, please do send in the report so that I'll remember to fix that.  In fact, send it to [email protected] so that I'll see it sooner.
