colony building

I keep trying to build a colony on a class 15 world but my ship keeps moving to far and I can only go around it is it possible to move diagonally or something??? please help!!!!

1. Are you using a colony ship? A ship with a colony module?

2. Are you sure it's not a special-environment planet? It would have a red symbol over it if it were. You can't colonize those until you've researched the appropriate extreme colonization tech.

it is not a special-environment planet and yes it is a colony ship.

Have you tried just clicking right on top of the planet, and letting it autopilot to the planet?

Hee hee, one time I had this problem with one of my freighters. I clicked and clicked on the planet I was trying to trade with, and it wouldn't take it. I checked into the ship details further, turns out I didn't put on a Trade Module--I put on a Troops module. Uh....oops.

I probably could've made the same mistake with a Constructor module vs. a Colony Module, if the price weren't so much different.
