Can't get software registered!

Says "invalid" serial number

Bought my software (GC II - Collectors Edition) in a shrink-wrapped box from a reputable retailer (Walmart).

Played around with it off and on for a period of time. Found that it had MANY shortcomings, including not having a number of the features mentioned and shown in the Manual.

Finally got fed up enough to go out to the web site. Read a lot of posts that said the software that I paid GOOD MONEY for was little more than an inadequate demo, and that I had to download updates from the GC II website.

Set up a GC account. While I was doing it, the site asked me to put in the software serial number, which I did. HOWEVER, after I was though, I got cautions that I still needed to register my software to get the downloads. The "Registrations" tab said that I had no software registered.

THEN had to go through the hassle of downloading and installing the glorified spyware package "Stardock Central" to get the ability to TRY to register again.

I put in the number CAREFULLY -- SEVERAL times. Kept getting an "invalid serial number" message.

In summary, I was sold a SORRY product that did NOT have the features and capabilities represented in the manual. Then, when I tried to update it at the CG2 website, the site refused to do it.

In summary: SORRY product and SORRY service -- what a waste of my time and money.

why not give it out when poeple join then? people will continue to copy and burn the game no matter what you do with the serial number.

if you e-mail the number as soon as people join then it would basicly eradicate posts like this one and the metaverse would run much faster.

Why don't you leave your doors unlocked with the keys in them so that burglars can come in and take all your stuff whenever they want?

i'm missing something here arnt i? are you saying that people with serial number can steal other programs of the metaverse? i didn't mean to sound angry, i just get a little carried away with arguements. i can see the logic in serial numbers. im just a little upset with mine, it keeps coming up as invalid. is it possible to get a new serial? coz i really need to update this game.

Ps. i have already conntacted stardock about my situation and they have no answers.

I asked earlier if you ever got an automated reply to your initial message, but you didn't say. If you didn't, then support's replies have probably been trapped by whatever anti-spam system you may have.

If you did, then what was your ticket number? I'll ask support to check on it.

I just bought the GalCiv2 Dread Lords Collectors Edition and it is giving me error messages when I put in the serial numbers(One on CD case for gameand one for Collectors Edition) as promtped. I go my copy at Best Buy. I will E-mail [email protected] but this is a pain. Welcoming any suggestions.

Which serial are you trying to enter, where are you entering it, and what is the exact error you get? When registering the game via the Register link at the bottom of the site here or in SDC, you need to use the game serial, which should be 28 characters, no dashes, only 0-9 and A-F.

If you don't have a serial matching that format, then support will be able to help you. Otherwise, your problem may be covered in the registration issues sticky.

Well I've experienced lot of issues with that. Here is a résumé.

I had difficulty to register my cd-key for both GC2 CE last year and DA this year.

I finnally ended up with 3 differents cd-key for gc2 dl and 2 different for gc2 da.

The guy at stardock write me by email that it was normal and that I should always get the lastest cd-key because when the game is updated the cd-key became invalid.

here is a copy-paste of what he wrote (to be honest I dont understand that)

"Hello,

Please know that the serial number lookup is going to send you a different
serial number with each lookup.
Any serial number provided within a version release should work for you. In
other words, a serial number you receive today would not likely work with a
future update of Dark
Avatar. Using the most recent serial number you received is generally safe.

If you have any further questions or problems, please let me know.

Thanks,
-Named Censored""

How is that suposed to be a great service ?

" Using the most recent serial number you receive is generally safe"

So it's normal that my game has now 5 different cd-key ???? wich 1 I have to use , and where do I need to register it ?

Do I need to register it when the game ask me to do it or via stardock (wich never work anyway)

?

If you're using the serial lookup, then you already have it registered. Just activate the game with the latest one, or install via SDC and let it handle all that transparently.

Each time you request your serials you get a new one based on the same seed, so while they're different numbers, they're treated as the same one in the system. Aside from a change in the format of the Gold serials a while back (the reason for which I don't recall), any of the serials you get from the serial exchange should work for activation.

What feature was mentioned in the manual that isn't in the game?

Edit: I know of only one and that's the destabilizing option.

While I am sympathetic to anyone who is having problems with the game, it certainly doesn't make me too anxious to help someone who keeps saying how bad the game is.

The registration system isn't bullet proof but it works 99.9% of the time without incidence and allows people to not just update the game but re-download the entire game years from now.
