invaded by bugs

disappearing improvements, etc

I've played Dread Lords alot (great game) and just bought and downloaded DA a few days ago. I know how to run an economy and how things basically work in the game, and I'm not making this up:

1) 50-60 turns into game, all advanced improvements are now unavailable to build. Stuff I built already is still there, including anything in the queue, but suddenly can only build the three basics (basic lab, etc.) Re-started game, re-loaded save, no fix. Reloaded save from first turn, still nothing available (started Iconian, should have had adv. market center, etc). ??

2)Improvements often don't have any effect anyway (so why bother building them?)

3)Had class 26 planet that couldn't muster a single manufacturing point no matter what I did with the sliders-- it just sat there for 20-30 turns till I gave up in disgust. Ended up with 3b population and no production.

4)Wacky things like this all over the place. As is this game is unplayable. So disappointed. Want money back (unless there is some magical thing that I can do to make this alright)

Most people seem to be happy with DA.

Personally i havn't bought it yet myself, not because i don't wan't it, but because it isn't quite interesting enough, and also has a few turn off's which make it to be less of a priority as some other games around at the moment.

I know it seems like it should be a good expansion if it worked right. maybe it does for most people....

you can build cooler ships:)

#3 sounds like it was a planet you didn't have the colonization tech for.

#1 Sounds like you may have selected the "old buildings" tab on the colony management screen.

#2 I can't explain and have never seen nor heard of, nor do I understand 1 and 3 if my suggested causes aren't the problem.

1) Sounds like you picked the 'old' tab. In DA there are tabs above the improvement list so you can choose to build the latest, or any old ones.

2) Can you give specific details about this (could be linked to 3)?

3) If you culture flipped or invaded this planet, the most likely explanation is that it was of an environment type you did not have the technology to use. With the special environments in DA, the first tech grants 50% production and the second allows those planets to reach full potential. With none, the special planets can't build anything.

4) Again, we can't help without specific details.

Regarding colonization techs, why do you stil have to research the 1st tech (for example Barren World Colonization) if you steal the advanced tech to get 100% production. Wouldn't the advanced tech include the basic one?

You'd think so, but it just doesn't work that way. Each one is worth 50% production, and it doesn't matter what order you get them in.
