Starting Ships Spawn Bug

I just started a new game and my 3 starting ships all spawned in the same square in the bottom right corner of the map, about a sector and a half away from my planet. Obviously this wasn't much of a problem since I had no time invested in the game, but it was a bit curious.

is it possible they started on a warp anomoly and thus got warped over to another area at the start of the game? I'm guessing that is what happened, normally only survey ships can use them, but if they start the game on a square of one?

I think I remember that 1.6 fixes a bug where a "ship can go out of bounds on rare occasions" but they decided to stick them in the bottom corner since they weren't sure what caused it.
