How about this for turning the tide and dumb AI mistakes.

The Yor declared war on me after I took two of there planets with influence that they settled in my space. I my navy was realitivly small but I was the Tech leader and had just found a Lucky Ranger (being lucky pays). The Yor got there Allies the Dregin to attack me too. They did something smart here they both attacked at the same time. I had my fleet pull a fighting retreate and destroyed the colonies I took. My Fleet arrived in my space before the combinded Yor and Dregin fleets got there (speed of 7 and 3 repectivly). My newly produced ships were either being built or on the way. All I had was my Lucky Ranger. A stack of Dregin arrive first (12 36 point fleets) The Ranger took the all out without a scratch! The Dregin had build real low power missle and mass driver ships they could not even scratch it. My boys looked at me as if I was insane, while I giggled and took out the attacking Fleets. On Turn two of there attack into my space My first Battle Crusier designed for them to show up to the fight and the two (Lucky Ranger and my Victorious) finsished the slaughter. Both sued for peace after about 1000 points of there ships were slaughtered.

At the time this was going on the Jagged Knife made an appearnce so all my transports were busy retaking my own planets.

The AIs have been losing to the Jagged Knife on the other hand.

AIs always pick the wrong fight it seems.

The Yor declare war on me all the time too!

I don't have any specific examples, but I've had several scenarios where I'll be pounding the AI and they will not except peace. I'll take 1/3 of their worlds, not lose a ship, much less a planet, and they won't except peace until they are on the edge of destruction.

I also run into the Yor declaring war then sitting their for six months before deciding the war is to costly

Im not a nitpicker, but those posts are hard to read...

i only encountered the Yor in one previous game (I'm quite new to this game) and they were friendly with me, the had a small military and i waskind enough to liberate some of their plantes before their enemy'ds invaded.

I/m playing now AS the Yor, I really wantto take advantage of the speed limitations to the AI.

But I too have encountered AI races that will not surrender until all is lost. They talk like they're winning while losing a planet per turn.

I don't think the AI is designed to consider the loss of a planet - Since it is possible to take planets from genuinly powerful AI's,, otherwise then you would be able to 'con' the AI from your own position of weakness. The dissadvantage of this safeguard is that a genuinly weak AI will be extremely dumb.

Sometimes when i find myself rolling over a pathetic AI, it reminds me of the Earth Mimbari war in Babylon5. They cannot hurt my ships at all, but they still keep on trying hehehe.... At least in Babylon5 Earth was smart enough to beg for mercy, (occasionally the AI will do this too).

add the yor only attack if they feel they are suprior to your Civ. plus the korath if your 2 close will try to kill you to

In my last game the Drengin declared war on me pretty early on, had just gotten medium hulls. But i had the tech to make a ship to counter their's. After a few tuns the dialog with them got pretty funny. "maybe we made a mistake in attacking you" and "can't you take a joke?" were two good ones.

One thing that I have found that sorta gives the AI pause is destroying a colony to prevent capture. The AI seems to step back a bit from this type of thing.

Yeah the yor still won't sing my peace treaty and they only have 4 planets left while i have 35 my solders need good traget pratice

My favorite foolish AI mistake was trading an economic treaty with the Krynn for about half their military. Since the Krynn were the only other super power and growing more and more hostile towards me, I turned around and bribed someone (iconians maybe) to declare peace on the almost defeated drendin, then gave all the Krynn ships to the almost defeated Drengin in exchange for declaring war on the Krynn. The Drengin flattened the Krynn with already positioned ships and the Krynn were suddenly at war with all of their neighbors and loosing territory within a few turns .

cool ans i have done that sometimes to but it's not as fun as defeating a super power by yourself
