Creating Custom Race wiped out Built in Race

Also messes with custom race design

I did a search before I posted this, but I didn't see anything like the problem I have.

I bought GalCiv 2 Gold last week and recently updated to the latest version.

I selected the Terran Alliance, and decided to change the name of the leader to my own. I started the game and noticed my neighbor was the Terran Alliance!

I quit and went back to the civ selector, and noticed now the Built in Terran Alliance was no longer the same name as it was before. Everytime I try to play as them there is always two of us.

I figured it mustof created a custom race, so I went to that screen. Now all it shows is the customized Terran alliance. Also, I can't customize it! Can't change the description, can't change the starting techs...

Its not a show stopper no more than it is frustrating. Basically I lost the race customization feature. It really makes me think they didn't test this very well.

I'm not sure exactly what would cause that problem, but I've found the best way to deal with outdated or undesirable race config files is to go in and delete them manually.

First, complete any games you want to finish. After that, or if you're just ready to start over, open Windows Explorer and go to My documents > My Games > then either GalCiv2 or GC2DarkAvatar, depending on which you're playing. Select any customrace files you don't want anymore and delete them. You'll want to delete all of the savegame files, too.

While you're in there, if you don't want to keep all of the ships you designed, go into the ships and/or Metaverse > ships folders and delete what you don't want to use again.

Between games I usually completely clean out all of those folders because I like to use the same ship names, but don't always research the same tech path. The only thing I leave in are custom opponent customrace files.

Hope that helps!

I have had the same problem and not yet found a solution. I designed a custom race which I've played with ever since starting the game. The other night I decided to see if I could play the Dread Lords campaign with my custom race so after selecting the campaign I changed the features of the Terran Alliance to match my custom race. When I tried to play a new game I noticed that I could not alter my custom race and annoyingly although the custom homeworld is listed with the name I gave it, the solar system is always Sol and the map for the homeworld always that of Earth. Bizarrely, I have uninstalled both GalCiv and Dark Avatar twice and the the same custom race with the same fixed techs, solar system and home world always appear. I have tried altering the race config but the custom race setting looks alright there anyway. I cannot find where the custom race is being stored to delete and start again or why it manages to overcome a complete reinstall. Any tips would make me a happy guy...

Those are stored in My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar. That location isn't cleared when you reinstall since it holds your saves, etc.
