Mining Question

How do you increase the levels of a mining station?

While my survey vessle was passing by another civ, I noticed that its mining statioons were around level 10. I contacted the civ hoping to trade a higher mining tech with them, but all they had was the basic mining tech.

So how do the levels increase? Over time? Through experience? If so, how does a mining station gain experience?

Where did you see the 10? I think what you were seeing is that the station was putting out 10 units per turn (if the AI had Space Mining.)

Once you research the mining tech's your same space miner that built the stations can upgrade them. There is only four levels, so as Excalidan eluded to you were most likely seeing output.
