Still slow downs

Using the 1.6 beta.

Still getting massive frame rate slowdowns when a lot of ships/fleets are on screen.

P4 2.8 ghz
ATI x800 GTO w/ 256 meg
2 gigs RAM

Talking under 10 fps.

I should add some game settings.

Medium galaxy
4 AI plus myself.
Only Drath and Terran's left with myself at time of posting.

I have some video settings turned down or off like no asteroid or resource textures, 2 AA , no "super" CPU usage.

I never had slowdowns in Dread Lords, only in Dark Avatar. So far the beta hasn't helped in my instance.

I also just updated my ATI drivers to the latest just in case and that didn't help either.

I also get slow down with the beta on this rig.
Meduim Galaxies.
Nine players
I still think the slowdown is caused by some of the ship jewelry, because my computer frap rates crash when i try to apply specific ones on my ships, so i figure if any of the comps are using jewelry that create that to happen on just a single ship, multiple ships could be the reason for the massive slowdown. The slowdowns only occur after attack ships are begining to be produced. Who knows

I try to play with AA on 2, but i still experience this problem when lowering every requirement, and forced to play the game in tactical mode.

It's definitely something to do with ships. If on the screen are no ships the frame rates are very good, 50s+. As soon as I pan so that 2 or more ships are on screen the frame rates die quickly to under 20 and most times under 10.

I have a custom race with the Altarian Resistance ship style and mostly stock ships from that style. Most of what I've customized is "tactical" stuff, not jewelry.

You may not have jewelry on your ships, but the AI ships do consist of jewelry that may cause thsi slowdown. i dunno!

Tototot, if you think it might be certain jewelry, can you send us a saved game with a ship that doesnt cause slowdown and a ship that does, so we can compare the two?

Just zip your save and send it to [email protected].   Thanks in advance.

I sent an e-mail but here is the file containing three ship jewelry that cause massive slowdown jsut by themselves on the ship design screen, while I also inserted a ship design with multiple jewelry on it that causes absolutley no slowdown. Hope this helps!

http://files.to/get/420891/43052/GalCiv2_Lag_Ship_Designs.zip

If you need more examples of ship jewelry that causes this, I can easily go through all the ship parts, all I have to do is practically select the piece and watch my computer stop :/

Tototot,

Thank you for posting those files.  However, I will also need the .shipcfg files to be able to use these ships.

OR...

It may be easier to just save a game with the ships in it, and zip the save file.  That one saved game file will include everything I need to be able to see and use your ships.

I e-mailed the ship files with the shipcfg, didn't see this before hand though.

I cannot reproduce the same jewelry causing the slowdown, but it seems kind of random sorts of jewelry will cause this problem in a game, its different every time i restart. wierd, this may be just my problem?

You know, I wonder if it is a particular ship.

I.e. maybe what happens is that there is ONE particular ship design the AI uses that when it happens brings things to a crawl.

Any thoughts on this?

Frogboy,

Possible. It doesn't happen until the AI starts spamming fleets all over the place. In my current game I will try to make a note at what point it starts and make a saved game at that point.

CodeCritter,

If you need my ship.cfg files let me know in email. I had just zipped up my saved game file.

I have the problem too. I just started a new game. Terran Alliance.
Never had problems with GC:DL. But now, even in the beginning of the game when i see only my 3 ships. The fraps are down to 12. I tryed to turn off some of the graphical settings but it didnt help.

I play the game on my laptop

Intel Pentium M 2Ghz
1.5GB Ram
Ati Radeon 9700 128mb
