From 'History of Earth, 21st and Onward'
The 21st century was a time of great change. The last great war before the new era of space travel burned the world in this century, and it brought the world to where it was today.
In the very early 21st century, terrorist attacks based in the Middle East were launched against the United States of America, England, Spain, and many more. War broke out, and by 2012 the western nations had attacked Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and many other nations. As it went on, the nations that were at war banded together, and in 2015 formed a single nation called the Tigris Confederacy. They began to form a united army, but it was not enough.
The Tigris called on many nations to take on refugees. Greece, for unknown reasons, agreed, as did Italy. But the United States declared war on them, and attacked both nations. Italy was soon taken, but by 2020 Greece had taken most of it back. This combination of nations formed what became known as the Phoenician Consortium, any many smaller nearby nations joined with them. With their growing military they helped protect refugees and defend against America.
In 2023, many of the European nations pulled out from the war, and began working toward uniting Europe, and hopefully the world. The European Union began to take a larger role for the nations that were involved in it. And in 2024, many of the islands in the pacific began united into a single nation to defend against attacks. In June of the year, the United States declared martial law, most of the islands in the pacific broke away, as well as Hawaii. The began to form an alliance of the Pacific Islands, and by 2030 most of the islands had joined the Pacific Alliance.
In 2032, peace was declared between the United States and the Tigris Confederacy. However, martial law was not revoked, and because of it many states seceded from the United States. Alaska, Montana, and Michigan first left in 2035, and Canada agreed to let them join as provinces. Washington, Oregon, and Idaho joined together and in 2036 formed the Columbian Republic. California formed the Republic of California, and Arizona and Nevada followed suite. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama formed the Atlantic Republic. Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah formed their own nation, the United Central States of America. By 2037, Maine had also joined Canada.
In March of 2037, the United States began attacking Arizona, and the Columbians and California sent their troops to help defend. Soon after this, Texas broke away, but quickly signed an alliance with the United States. They quickly sent their own soldiers to attack the Atlantic Republic.
In 2040, Arizona and Nevada joined with the UCSA, and they quickly attacked and captured Nebraska and Kansas. By 2043, Missouri and Arkansas had fallen to the UCSA, and their government was rebuilt soon after. However, in 2044 the Columbian Republic fell to the United States attacks. The three states were broken up and full control was given to the military.
2046 was the major turning point in the war, as the UCSA took control of New Mexico, and in 2047 took full control of the entire western half of the United States. However, it did not last long, and New Mexico and Nevada were retaken by Texas. But the fact that it was all under there control showed the world powers that they could do it, and soon aid from the Phoenicians came for the civilians, and by 2049 they sent in military aid to help defend what they had.
In 2052 Nevada, New Mexico, and a small section of Oklahoma were under UCSA control. The Pacific Alliance sent in soldiers to help them, and by 2060 North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio were under full control of the the UCSA. In 2061 a missile bombardment was launched on Washington D.C., and as West Virginia and Virginia fell to the UCSA the army marched on the capital, and by August of the year the United States surrendered. By 2062 the USCA had full control of the remaining states.
Work began on foruming a formal nation, not one based on a war. Canada agreed to join in a new alliance that controlled all of North America, as long as the rights that Canada supported were kept. After much work, the American Republic formed.
In 2066, a man by the name of Romanov fomed a small organization in Russia. It quickly grew, and in September of that year they began attacking Russian cities. For unknown reasons, the Phoenicians sent aid the Romanov, supplying them with food and medical supplies. There were heavy losses on both sides, but by 2070 Moscow was taken, effectively eliminating the Russian government. Romanov declared himself the emporer of Russia, and by 2072 the Romanov Empire was under his direct control. After heavy policing of riots and loyalists to the Russian government, the majority of the nation was peaceful and obeyed the new laws.
During all of this, Africa had been in a war of its own, and after the Romanov revolution people took notice. The Central Africank Republic - now the United African Republic since 2061 - was at war with the growing Democratic Republic of the Congo. Most of South Africa had joined with it, and in contrast much of North Africa united with the UAR. As the Phoenicians were directly above the UAR, they offered supplies to aid in the war effort. After two decades of war, the Democratic Republic and its allies surrendered to the UAR in 2081. Phoenicia and Romanov became their closest allies, and in 2082 this alliance became formal.
The American Republic continued to grow, and by 2083 Greenland and Iceland were officially members of this Republic. Also, son the nations in Central America signed over to this Republic. It was very uncharictaristic of the Americans to do this, as they had shown in the past they were very warlike. It seemed that the age of warfare that had spread was over.
However, it was not. In South America, the war was just beginning. Brazil - being funded by unknown sources - had gone into a econimic war with the neighboring nations of Bolivia and Venezuela. Many nations, seeing the political structure of the world at this point, simply surrendered to them, but these two did not. They, along with Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay went to war in 2083. America saw what was happening, and supported Brazil in its political efforts. The unknown aid to the war effort grew in power, and by 2088, Brazil had total control over South America, and was a strong ally to the American Republic. They renamed their nation to the Federated Brazil Republic, which later was shortened to the Brazil Federation.
The last great political change came in 2098, when India, China, Japan, and Mongolia joined together to form the Confusian Alliance. During the wars in the other parts of the world, these four nations had been working together on a project to achieve a powerful engine capable of intersteller travel. By 2100 they had a working prototype, which for an unknown reason was sold to the Phoenician Alliance.
As the last days of the 21st century came to a close, the people of Earth looked more toward the stars, and less with guns pointed at each other. It seemed that all the nations of the day could actually get along. Researchers are still puzzled by this fact, and that it all began with the formation of the Phoenician Consortium. No conclusions have been drawn.
The 22nd century was a time of exploration. After the Phoenicians had the prototype engine, they began working on a ship that could work with it. In 2104 they launched the PCA Apollo's Chariot, and began building a space station between Earth and Luna that they named Olympus 1. When it was finished it became the capital city of the Phoenician Consortium. Soon, work went in to building a base on the moon, and in 2108 Atlas base was complete. From there, they sent a ship to Mars, and set up Atlas 2, as well as a station named Aleph (Phoenician for Alpha, or A). By 2114, stations to mine resources from the larger asteroids, and right on the edge of it they build Olympus 2.
In 2217 a ship was sent to Saturn to set up a survey station. The Argus Survey Station was finished in 2118, and quickly people began to move out to the new colonies that had been started, entranced by the idea of living on another world, or in space. In 2120 an expedition to Neptune set out, and there they build Olympus 3. As it was farther away, they included a larger dry dock so they could build ships instead of waiting for shipments from Earth. From there, exploration to Pluto and beyond began, and by 2125 it was common to see private and public ships all over the solar system. It seemed as though the wars of the last century were finally over with sharing of technology and a global peace.
However, it did not last. In 2130, a small war between the Phoenicians and the Pacifics broke out, and quickly it went to space. Many ships were destroyed, and many killed. But the war ended in 2133 with orbital bombardment sent from the Romanov Empire. It was very odd, as they had shown no interest in the war. To solve this problem, the Americans proposed a global nation in 2134, united Earth for the first time in the history of mankind. It was turned down.
In 2136, contact with an alien race began. They had met the Astolan Rift. It took a long time, but they finally began to understand each other. The Phoenicians, Romanov, and Confusians became good friends with the new race, and they were willing to share technology with the humans. They had already shared technology with sensors and advanced engines. However, the Pacifics saw a ship near Pluto, and without any warning attacked it. As it turned out, it was the ambassador's ship, and was considered an act of war, which is understandable. Open war began, and in 2138 Astolan warships were seen on the fringes of the solar system. Quickly, Olympus 3 and all of the allied nations warships were destroyed. Nothing could stop this attack.
A message was sent out in Astolan from Argus for help. As the Astolan ships advanced in, a reply was heard and relayed to Earth: We are coming. The entire world held its breath as the attacks increased, destroying Olympus 2, Argus 2, Aleph, and Atlas 2. As the ships appeared above Earth, all hope was lost. The Phoenicians sent a ship to offer surrender, but it was destroyed. Just as they opened fire on Atlas base, other ships appeared and fired on the Astolan ships. They quickly destroyed the attackers, and those they didn't ran. The new race sent a message to Olympus 1, announcing themselves as the Kaden Imperium. In 2144 official contact began, and the Kaden shared weapon technology with the humans. They told a tale of a great war in the past with the Astolans, and then offered an alliance. In 2150 it was accepted by the Americans, Phoenicians, Romanov, Confusians, and Africans.
Colonization began for Earth. As the nations allied to the Kaden had a distinct advantage over the others, they claimed the most worlds for their control. As it turned out, the majority of the space faring nation had known of Earth for some time, and had set aside an area for them to colonize. It wasn't much, but it was much more then they would have had.
In 2157 a world was colonized that was named Drummond. As it grew, a man named Norman Lindsay became the governor of it. Back on Earth, he had been pushing for a unified Earth government in case of another outside attack, or even an internal one again. He was continually rejected by most others, but a few had listened to him on the colonies. Many worlds near Drummond sided with him, and by 2163 the Drummond Federation was born.
Tensions have grown, and the other human nations are preparing to attack. The year is 2165, the start of the Galaxis Saga.
